Another henry J build

Well,
I've been offline for a week and a half, satelite problems but I'm back on now. Still looking for a good junkyard 9 inch ford rear. Kinda on hold til then. Won't be long though.

 

Wondering what happen to your high speed build...lol

 

Most of the older stuff with a 9 inch rearend around here has gone to the scrap yard. I got one spotted though. Still making my own motor noises . LOL Bought a Edelbrock crossram and two 600 Holleys from a HAMB member last week. Can't make up my mind if I want it or a regular tunnelram. Kinda leaning toward the tunnelram but the old crossram sure looks good though.

 

Run the crossram, tunnel rams are done to death ..lol I had a lot of people trying to peak into the hole in my hood to see what was in there this weekend at the car show.

 

I've been told that Ford 8.8 rears are pretty strong so that's what I'm going with. Ranger pickups with the 4 liter engine have them and at 58 1/4" wide they fit a Henry J good.

Roll bars are in! Waiting on a 9 inch rear. I need to roll.

Well, I got my junkyard 9 inch rear end under the J. Still got to do a little finish welding and make the panhard bar but I've crawled under it for the last time today. LOL

 

...mite that orig. 4 banger make a neat motor for a one-man modified?

Glad ya found a rear finaly, what was it out of ?

 

The rear end was out of a 85 Ford truck. Tried to find a car rear end but couldn't. I wanted the small bolt pattern but I think I can redrill the axle for the small pattern. I have a spare chunk that I'm going to put about a 4.56 0r 4.88 gear and a spool in. Still having to make my own motor noises. LOL

You know I ain't kidding !
I was dressed in a complete body suit it seemed and still managed to get overspray all over me. Nothing like squeezing into a little hole trying to fog the color on the top of the bar then laying on your back spraying up to get the bottom. Now you got to get out without touching any of the freshly painted bar...lol
I needed about a week to recover from that episode !

 

That is funny (I'm still laughing..... )About as much fun as welding them together ! I felt bad for the the gentleman that put the headliner in my car. When I picked it up, he told me his wife said "no more interiors in cars with roll bars". Smart women.

 

Panhard bar is on. A little more welding but it's on there. Ready for some pressure washing and sand blasting now that I can roll.

 

Looks good. My only suggestion would to have made the panhard bar as long as possible . The shorter it is ,the more side to side movement there is. I did a pro-street 40 similar to this many years ago, and ran into a handling issue because of it. Not criticizing your work. Just a heads-up.

Baron, Yes sir, I gave that some thought and decided as stiff as the rear suspension is and as light as the back end of the car is, there wouldn't be much movement side to side. I may have to rethink that after one full bore pass. LOL

To bad Jack, but a man has to do what a man has to do, good luck and maybe things will work out to keep it.

 

Just couldn't do it! I ain't selling. I have it promised to one buyer but if he doesn't take it, it's gonna get back in the build. I got wheels on it and rolled it out of the shop to get a good look. gotta finish it!

 

Good for you. The good thing about these cars is that they don't eat much. Keep it under cover and when the time is right, you start right where you left off. Good luck.

Yesterday, I moved the front axle back on top of the springs and raised the rear shocks up. Had to get it back in the air where a Henry J gasser belongs. Gotta do a little sandblasting and body filler smoothing then she'll be ready for some paint. Color lies between cream orange and sunshine yellow. Can't decide.

 

I meant to say the springs are on top of the axle. It's early!

 

Get that Camera out and snap some more pics, cant wait to see it on some rollers!

I need inspiration to get my build started!
