Thanks Hogman. I'm going to fabricate some more tomorrow. I've had the weekend to further think about the bracket, and it's just now a matter of turning my thoughts into metal.

I must admit that the temptation is getting closer.:D

I ditched the idea of making the alternator bracket moveable, instead I'm going to use a tensioner to tighten the belt.

Got up early and woke most of the neighbours up by cutting holes in a 3mm steel plate.:D. Next I lined it up in the correct postion and made holes for the alternator. Then I made a hole where the lower radiator hose will go through. In order to strengthen the plate even further, I bent some 2mm to follow the contour and a backing plate. Going to weld it all up tomorrow, probably followed by some grinding where it will hit the waterpump. More tomorrow.:D:D:D

No problems plumbid. Considering a few things have taken longer than anticipated due to my inability to cut corners, I hope that the car will be painted and driveable by the end of this year. Thank you everyone for your patience.;)

It will certainly get interesting.......I want to weld it all together first, then grind it where I have clearance problems. Then there will probably be some more fabrication/welding/grinding until it is correctly positioned. Maybe the long way around, but I just want make sure it comes out the way I envisioned it.

Looks good. Are you going to have enough airflow around it to keep the alternator cool?

Thanks plmczy. This is something I'm concerned about as well......I was thinking of enlarging the hole slightly and perhaps make a few extra holes above it. I can also re-direct some airflow from below the cross member or from another position. Give me some more time to think about this one or if someone else has a suggestion, feel free to comment.:D

Got up early once again and went to my buddy Jaap as he has this awesome professional welding machine. (and mine still isn't fixed.)

First tacked everything in place, then completely welded it all around. Gave it a good clean up and drilled some holes on the top for cooling and good looks!

I had to cut here and there to make it fit, but got it installed by the end of the afternoon. I'm going to do some more welding/drilling tomorrow and fine tune the whole set up to make sure it clears everything.

Came out looking awesome I think. :D:D:D

(first 4 pics were taken by my iPhone....the quality just isn't the same.)

Man it looks really close to the steering rack, and how are you planning a lower radiator hose out of your water pump? looks like it will be super fun to get around the alternator and the tensioner assy.
I cant wait to see your solution..

  15. Is the radiator-to-pump hose going to go through that hole?

Man that looks awesome! Are you going to paint it black? What are you going to do with your pulleys, leave the brushed, or polish them?

The upper hole is for the radiator hose.

    Thank you sir.

    Thanks Jochen.

At the moment there is half an inch playing room until it hits the steering rack. The plan is to move the steering rack slightly forward. The tensioner will more than likely be postioned to the right of the "hose" hole.

    Yes sir.

Thank you n847! I'm thinking of just painting it black so as not to distract from that what really matters.:D. Leaving the pulleys brushed for now.

That turned out nice. Are you going to use a tensioner like Langy suggested?

looks good, nice grinder work. Do you think it is going to get enough air flow for cooling being cased up like it is between the block, radiator and in a low air flow area?

Man thats cool Eric! How about a couple of louvers in it to help air flow through?

Thanks plmczy. Yes, I'm going to look for one of the Alfa Romeo 75 tensioners and see if I can make it work. No use trying to re-invent the wheel considering Langy already has.

    Thank you Finnrodder.

    Thanks Rock.

Thank you Scott! I've added a few more holes, that should be sufficient. The hole bracket looks to be cased, but a few areas have been cut out since yesterday.....more pics soon.

Thank you OahuEli! I may add some more holes/louvres later once I've found a tensioning pulley and determined its position.

Today was modification day! After a lot of test fitting and grinding, I finally got it to fit properly. I had to weld some extra pieces in and change the contour of the part closest to the fluid damper slightly. Added holes all the way around the alternator and some below to increase the flow of cool air and release for the heat it produces. Made sure there is also enough clearance so it won't hit the cross member and rack and pinion.

Then got the old sandpaper out and smoothed it all the way to 600 grit. Then gave it a couple of zinc coatings. Job done!:D:D:D
