I think so, it seems to have kinda gotten away from all of the billet bolt ons, and somewhat gone back to its roots.

  3. Well, I've been reading Hot Rod since 1956 and have seen some ups and downs. I think it's been pretty good for the last few years, ever since Frieberger came back.

What makes you say it's better lately?

Traditional cars are the new billet so they jumped on board. When this trend fades in the mainstream they'll move on to something else. Just the way it is to sell magazines.

Ever since they've been running all the old pictures from the archive, they look a lot better from the traditional point of view :)

you can toss the dvd (since they sent it to you without you requesting it), and besides the marketing end of the corporate conglomerate has no connection to the editorial content.

I was thinking the same that it seems to be getting better. I think part of it is the economy and they seem to be doing more low buck builds and such and I love the Hot Rod Deluxe mag. I think it's associated with them. Only comes out bi-monthly I believe. anyway my .02 worth/.YRUHOT............Doug

If you hold it up to a mirror it all makes perfect sense.

I think that's around the time I looked at my last Hot Rod magazine. A buddy had the May 2012 issue at his shop I went out and bought one for myself. The editorial even talks about when management decided to let foreign cars in and how Toyota is messing up NASCAR.

    Rust is the new billet!!!

Maybe I need to pick up an issue of Hot Rod magazine and see. I have not looked at one in a long time.

The last couple of issues I thought, what the hell is wrong here. Rusty pieces of junk on the cover, cars built for shock value, The Ranchero story where they totally failed to meet their own goals, etc. - sorry but I don't think it has gotten better at all. I've been reading it since the early 60's and this is not the glory days for Hot Rod in my opinion.

I've ben getting the magazine since 75 and have collected nearly every issue, but lately the stuff they have been showing has been goiing downhill. Rat rods and now in the newest issue a tractor, come on. I don;'t care if it does have a flathead, it is still a tractor. The only plus is the historic photos of some rods from the 50's this month.

The above Corvette deal is a perfect example of what I think is going on over there. Frieburger likes doing goofy stuff with cars and his buddies and somehow thinks we should all be interested in that crap. Same with his story on bringing some old piece of crap GM car back from AZ that wasn't really road worthy and it broke down on them. This is the kind of story that yo and your buddies tell to each other, not the kind that I spend my hard earned $$$ on.

Hit and miss. Usually miss. Although, I am going to get a 2 year subscription, so I can get a hat. No shame.

  29. Loved this months issue ... best "49 cents an issue" I've spent, I love the histry lessons ..... let Lokar, Rock Auto and Dakota Digital subsidize my reading expense!

Street rodder .... now there is a fine example of american advertizing ... more ads than a phonebook.

I recently subscribed to Hot Rod Deluxe via the web. ' next thing I know, I'm getting Hot Rod instead. Call 'em up. The lady on the other end says, "Sorry for the mistake. We'll switch your subscription to HRD. It'll take a month, but we'll send you a full year's worth. You'll still get the next couple of HotRod. Just keep 'em."

Otherwise I still wouldn't be looking at it.

    Yep. You said it.
