I have a set of carbs/intake i want to sell, but i need to figure out exactly what they are. The casting #'s on the intake are 3731394. From what i can find this is from a '56 corvette. The carbs are Carter AFB's with the electric chokes removed. The #'s on the carbs are 6 or G 1485 and they have a 450 on the underside of them. I don't think these are correct for a '56 Corvette. Any ideas? Could the carbs be from a 409? Thanks, Brian

take the carbs off, you'll see there are adapters under them. Definitely not the correct carbs for the intake.

And those carbs are old AFBs, from before the invention of electric chokes

Where is that number on the carb? the number you want is stamped on the front, just in front of the mounting hole

Just from the looks of them, I would GUESS a couple of junkyard single quads from a Pontiac of maybe 1961 or 1962 that have been worked on by Dr. Goodpliers (the evil twin of Mr. Goodwrench).

If so, these do not have the number referred to by Jim.

I noticed they had adapters. The number is right on the top. The only other numbers i see are on the sides of the fuel bowls and it says "0- 1455"

I did see some online with tags so mabey?

  8. Definitely not Pontiac. The plug fitting in the front just to the left of the needle screws were never on any Pontiac/Carter AFB. You're close though.

Squirrel is correct on all accounts. These carbs did have a metal tag on one of the carb screws but we all know those went in the trash upon the first rebuild.

Most AFB's did not use a tag. Identification numbers on AFB's are stamped into the base on one of the bottom corners.

I'll still bet on 1961~1962 Pontiac, but with Chrysler vacuum piston covers. And yes, the 1961~1962 Pontiac did have the provision for the screw fitting.

The tag should have been of the airhorn screw on the drivers side rear.

If the OP were to post a primary venturi cluster number, we could know for certain.

  11. Hey Jon it's hard to tell by that little avatar photo but judging by that intake runner, that looks like a Pontiac.

All my 60's Pontiac AFB's have the carb tag on one of the front screws. Not that it matters all that much. I'm just sayin.

I know this fairly well because I always look for the "3896S" AFB's.

The primary venturis have the #'s 2-237 stamped into them and the secondaries say 2 196 Are those the #'s you were looking for??

Nope - those are the throttle plates. What I am looking for would be the tiny numbers stamped on the top of the primary venturi clusters.

    Carter 3300s or 3326s or 3326sa.

    1962 Pontiac V-8.

Again, please read my previous posts. These carbs have been modified significantly externally. The external mods probably indicate internal mods as well. I would suggest that these are probably useful for parts only.
