Just had to show off a couple pics of my cousins new project. He found this virtually rustfree '49 windsor in SW iowa.. I'm not a big custom guy but i think this thing would make a KILLER taildragger. Thoughts? Ideas? Inspiration?.

Being a more-door, I wouldn't go over the top. It could make a nice looking mild custom. I love the old Mopars....

I wouldn't go too crazy with it. They make great cruisers with just a few mods. Neat project.

In 1949 the first cars of the Mopar lines all were 46-48 style. They are known as early 49 or 1st series 49. The conventional "granny"-styled 49 cars came in the year of 1949 rather than the usual introduction month of Sept 1948.

The Windsor was the 6-cylinder cars, the Saratoga the bottom line 8-cylinders,
the New Yorker the standard 8 cylinder, the Town & Country 8-cylinder wooden convertible and Sedan 6-cylinder wood-sided sedan, and the Imperials top-of-the-line 8-cylinder cars and limos(limos are now recognized Classics, I know not why?).

So much potential. Strip some of the chrome. Lower for sure. Wide whites. It would be a TON of work but a small chop (like 1.5" or 2") might look really nice. Do a photoshop. Fifties Hemi motor. Shiney Black or dark Navy.

nice looking old ride. I can't see doing anything to that car that would take it too much away from stock.

some old cars are cool enough just left alone and polished and refined.

slammed has it right, buff it and drive it, but most importantly, slam it on wide whites

Just outside of Missouri Valley? Seen one similar on My Ride Rules. It was more of "retro ride" in black, I thought it was really sharp, Your's has the same potential. Have fun.

Way cool cruiser! Heck, a daily
driver, even! I'd just clean it up
with a can of elbow grease and
a bit of "spit, polish and buffing",
repair & rebuild the brakes and
    the other mechanicals as necessary,
stick some wide whites on it and
drive it! I'd even go a bit gentle
with the 'spit, polish and buffing',
so as not to remove too much of
    the 'patina' that its accumulated
    over the past 60-odd years.

Yep, that's prime "Bomb" material as it sits. Shiny paint, low to the ground and polish the hell out of the chrome and your are ready to cruise. What a guy doesn't spend on changing the outside he can spend on the interior.

Always loved how the grill on these wrap all the way around to the front wheel openings.
Plus dig the rear suicide doors.
Fix the stance, maybe some skirts and for sure wide whites. Then drive it!!

Gold 13" 100-spoke Dayton knockoffs, gold curb feelers, purple crush velvet with hanging dingly balls, and deep purple paint with gold metal flake?

    :p:p:p

And 'Hernandez' across the back widow in Old English font?

    ------------------

In all seriousness, if it's all in one piece, driveable, and safe, I'd just fix what needs fixin' and go drive.
