Projects ++ PHOTOS... The Corbusier Shoebox Chop ++

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lowtech, Apr 20, 2012.

  1. This is a project I've been looking forward to for quite some time. The work will be executed by my good friend Kyle Phillips from San Diego who's gonna spend some time in Switzerland while chopping the shoebox and enjoying some days of vacation. The shoebox is owned by a friend of mine. I'll try to cover the chopping process with some pictures from the shop.

the le corbusier reference came up while we were discussing the perfect roof height... We took the position of the driver's head as the location of the highest point of the window. For a harmonious driving experience with man and machine as one. Right?

Shouldn't it be Le Corbusier Chop?:D:D What's the connection to the Architect/Urbanist besides Switzerland? Is it going to be modern?

Looks like a great thread to subscribe to!!

Where's the moneyshot? Let's see that roofline! Looks to be well executed so far- the trick of course is getting the c pillar right! Mr. Phillips looks like he knows what he's doing!

  7. Cool, thanks!
Oh there's way more of a connection to Le Corbusier besides Switzerland... Actually the shoebox will be chopped along the lines of the Modulor, Le Corbusier's anthropometric scale of proportions. The scale is based on human measurements, the double unit, the Fibonacci numbers, and the golden ratio. And probably a lot more. Le Corbusier described it as a "range of harmonious measurements to suit the human scale, universally applicable to architecture and to mechanical things." Thus the resulting harmonious driving experience we're striving for. :D See and marvel.

nice work so far, im just as impressed with the shop!!

  16. That's what I'm thinking:D

Le Corbusier had way to much talent and vision to rely on some mathematical formulas, to design furniture etc. Yeah, we learned about that stuff in art school too and a lot of it works, but in the end, you have to trust your "eye".
He just reverse engineered his vision, for ordinary folks.
Good luck, looks good so far.
In the end if it looks awesome give Kyle credit, if the chop ****s, blame Le Corbusier :)

I totally dig this! I just went through the Shoebox club thread and then this. You did a great job covering the Model A 3 window coupe build so this thread will be no exception.

    Great photography as usual.
