  1. great post Tim............

  2. Have followed you on the Y-block forum and just finished this thread. I don't think my 292 coupster is going to be as well engineered as Jake, but I'm glad to hear what a y-block sounds like. Hope to get on the road this year. (Ha)
Good luck this season. I'm on first "reserve" for B-ville if someone in the group bails. But They'll be looking for 416.

Great job on all your videos.

  5. Finished the balance work today. With the lighter pistons and extra weight taken off the throws when I ground them from 2 3/16" to 2" left some weight to come of the counter weights.

Instead of just drilling into the counterweights I cut them down. This should keep the "windage" down. I also filled in the existing holes from the factory balance.

Pretty happy with the results. For those that don't know the windows at the top of the screen represent the amount of weight that the crank is off at the front (left) or rear (right) in grams. the window below is the angle at which it is to be removed. I started with about 50 grams at both ends. factory balance is usually within 10 grams. I have seen some, engines from the 70s mostly, that are out as much as 25. I think this one will rev nicely. ;)

FYI; I used the light forged pistons and heavy duty rods from Mummert. The pistons are 100 grams lighter than the stock cast, even with the 10cc dome. So far, that sounds great. The heavy duty rods from Probe, in California, are very stout. When it came time to balance it all, weight had to be ADDED! The fellow welded up the stock holes in the crank, and part of the vee slot. It worked perfect. Very smooth, reved to whatever I had balls to rev it to. I shifted at seven.

  7. Very good Don. Seven is what I shift at, anything lower and the 292 couldn't pick it up in fourth. At least at Elmo, you've got a lot more realestate at Bonneville. This engine should have more "grunt" but I will also be running a higher ratio in the rear. ;)

Have you seen the ratios in the T 600? Very close on the top three, right down your alley!

  9. Here's a little engine assembly.

Elmo is coming up fast. You ready ???

  21. We each need an individual tool handler. We were always asking for blond tool caddys at the bike shop. This is the closest to that ever coming to fruition. :D

  25. No! But I'm working on it. I had to put the Dragster away so I can concentrate on the Uni. We'll make it. ;)

With the "crew" you have there you should have no problem getting the uni and the dragster both in order...Ha !

  29. Trying to get things ready for Elmo in May. Yesterday I did a little work on the engine, got it buttoned up on the bottom end. The heads are on the engine in the truck so I wont have them on till I pull the engine. That should be next weekend.

Also today I intalled the spool and 3.70 ratio, this will give 139 mph @ 6000 rpm, 151 @ 6500 and 163 @ 7000. That would give me a record at Elmo if I can pull 7k. ;) We'll see.
