Somehow, I don't think this is Questa, New Mexico. Not with an "Okla" on the sign and another sign that advertises the Daily Oklahoman (still publishing) and Oklahoma City Times (defunct).

Yeah, I'm a couple of weeks behind.

Yep, I remember as a kid watching the Red Skelton show, Ed Sullivan, Rowan and Martins Laugh In, Carol Burnette show, Mchales navy....

  5. It wouldn't be the first time those LOC pics have inaccurate or incorrect captions. I think the 'volunteers' that files the pics and other material take a SWAG on them - sometimes they're right, other times - not.

Ahhhh...the '72 Super Beetle of sainted memory (though that might be a '71...or maybe a standard beetle, if those scarab cuts on the hood are as narrow as they look in the pic). Had one myself and it went many a place that only 4WD would dare. I call it my "Bullitt" car, since it so closely resembles the poor green VW that gets passed a half dozen times in the chase scene. 1st gen Super Beetles had flat windshields, starting in '73 they got curved.

My poor student days VW after starting my first real job in Utah...somewhere down around Loa.

Look closer, this is obviously a paste up. You can see the cut edge on the hand and on the neck.
