Thanks for posting this, Ehdubya. Bill "Young" Stribling was a dyed-in-the-wool Georgia boy, a Christian, a teetotaler, a dedicated athlete AND the BEST PRO BOXER:cool: nobody remembers today! Why? He was killed in a motorcycle accident in early 1933, on the way to see his wife and new baby boy in the hospital.:( His pro stats measure up to those of Archie Moore. And in the fight RING magazine called THE FIGHT OF 1931,:D "Strib" and Max Schmelling went nearly the whole route before the fight was ended by the ref over a cut and swelling on one of Young's eyes. Max liked Strib's clean fighting style, and I believe he would have given him another title shot, had Strib not been killed, still a very young man. His is a fascinating story. I do believe someone wrote a book about him. Fight fans, please correct me if I'm wrong on that. (Incidentally, I remember seeing a COOL photo of Strib sitting proudly on the motorcycle -- with a straight-faced "Ma" Stribling perched behind him! Love to see it again!) May the memory of this boxing good:) guy be revived and live on.
