ATTN: San Antonio/Central TX HAMBers: 51 Merc 2 Door Project Stolen from my house in San Antonio between Sun and Thurs. The car was behind a locked gate, without an engine, so the gate had to be removed and a flatbed brought into the yard to steal it. I know if I have a chance to get it back, I have to rely on my fellow HAMBers. If anyone hears of someone getting or selling a 51 Merc rolling chasis around San Antonio, please let me know. I was finally in a place financially to get my dream project under way.
I hate to ask this but did you have a title in your name for that car? If not, it is history. Without a title in your name even if you found it at a swap meet for sale or (?) you would have no proof it was yours. Neither would the thief so the car would likely be impounded and auctioned off by the county Sheriff in a few months. I hope you find it and have the means to prove it is yours.
Damn sorry to hear about this. I have lots of friends and family in San Antonio and will put the word out and send this link.
I'll keep an eye out here in the deep south. I work downtown and have to drive past the international bridges several times a day!
I have a bill of sale, VIN and the title from the last time it was on the road, in 1954. Copies of both were given to the SAPD yesterday. It was in the Central SA area. This isn't a car that some knucklehead just decided to take. Any help would be much appreciated!
I will keep an ear and eye out. That's total BS. I know of a few shady ass people who I will make sure to pay closer attention too.
Hate to say it, but with scrap bringing good money..... my bet is on it being at Newells in little pieces. I'll keep a watch out down here & hope for the best, man.
Thanks Brothers! I was just picking it up yesterday. I'm finally at that spot where I could get it on the road... to getting it on the road.
Well that explains why you didn't need help picking it up Sunday. That sucks. I guess your just gonna have to get something really old to make you feel better.
Devin, I would call the salvage yards down around there as well. Sucks , was looking forward to seeing it in the backyard...
Have you asked the neighbors especially the kids? Kids tend to pick up on stuff like old cars on the back of a truck more than a lot of adults would. Someone may have seen the truck hauling it off. Most likely either a roll back or a roll truck and I'd almost bet on the roll truck unless you saw marks that showed where the bed of the roll back set down. I'd ask down the ally for a few blocks on either side as I'd bet that who ever snatched it ran down the ally for a couple of blocks before hitting the street. We had a local "wrecker" who was supposed to be hauling clapped out hulks away here in town a few years ago that instead decided that it was more interesting to haul collectable cars parked in peoples yards away until he hauled my coworker's 56 Chevy out of his driveway and got nailed to the cross over it. My guess is that someone knew the car was there and knew when you were out of town for a few days and had access to a truck to haul it.
I hope you find it! San Antonio is a small town and the H.A.M.B. is a big family And I know every one will keep there eyes and ears open. Keep your head up Brother!!
