Very cool rake no rake billit smilit dont leave the keys in it or someones gonna steal it... You and yours are in for some grate times in that babby MobilDave
He does seem to be a really nice guy. He sells a lot of cool cars, too. Some of them are OT, obviously, but cool cars nonetheless.
Got the car today and I am happy with it. I have to do a few things to make it more "RockAble" but that is to be expected. First up is an alignment. This thing is scary to drive as it is. Feels like it is toed out. Also, I have to do the ass end drop and rear shock change and add some R134 to the AC.
Aaargghhh. I guess it's going to take me a couple weeks to sort this car out. I had to put a new battery in it yesterday. So far, this is my punch list. 1. Put new springs in the front end to get the suspension geometry right and eliminate the bump steer. May as well put new shocks in while I'm at it. 2. Lower the rear. 3. Two new tires and an alignment. 4. Make adapter to move the seat back 2" or so. 5. Add refrigerant to the AC. 6. Change oil and check all fluids. 7. Adjust the shift linkage. That's all for now. So much for just getting it and driving it.
Well, I worked like a dawg this weekend getting the suspension fixed. New springs from NAPA eventually got the front right. Did I mention that I hate spring compressors? I have learned/relearned that a jack is safer and better. Those damned spring compressors will either hurt you or make you hurt yourself......plus they take longer. After getting the front right, I lowered the rear 2" with a drop kit from Butch's Cool Stuff and replaced the rear shocks with new NAPA replacements. Even while needing an alignment, it drives much better. That bump steer deal was scary! Also, I rotated the steering column to get the shift lever out of the way do my long legs. I'm thinking I won't have to move the seat back now. The car looks much better now with its new stance. I'll post some pictures later. This is going to be a cool old car to drive. I'm planning to drive it to Nashville for the GoodGuys show weekend after next. Oh yeah, whomever did the upholstery work on this car did an awesome job. II hope I can find someone this good to do my Plymouth.
I found out I do not have a neutral safety switch. How is the best way to install one? I do have a little cam on the shifter input shaft that I think works the backup light. I guess I could add another lobe and switch.
I am in the same boat. Ordered my Ididit column before I realized I even needed one. Will be watching closely . . . BTW, starved for pics here.
Dang. Forgot to take pics again. I have been working like a madman to get this thing whipped into shape to drive to Nashville GG. I'm ready, I just hope the car is, too. I went through a helluva punch list in two weekends, including polishing the wheels and the rest of the car. I'm whipped, but it looks good and should be road ready.
The car looks great but were you expecting all these problems? You bought this car from a top dealer and it needed a battery, the a/c charged, and the steering was scary. Whats that say about his business? I wouldn't have been happy.
I was not happy and I told him so but I bought it sight unseen. That's my fault. He said he "wholesaled" it to me. That was never mentioned during our discussions. It was obvious that he took the car in on trade and flipped it without doing anything to it. I didn't get hurt on the deal but I think I've learned my lesson on buying one without checking it out myself.
Well, I have been working on the car almost every weekend since I got it. I have replaced the battery and the steering rack. I had the AC worked on and I have sorted out numerous bugs, including a new thermostat to fix an overheating problem. I have most of them behind me now. I will install a new audio system next weekend. Got to have my tunes when I cruise! Also, I have worked quite hard on the handling. I have it where it goes straight but am fighting some major roll steer with the stock rear springs. I have a set of sway bars on order from Chassis Engineering that I hope will set it right. If not, I'll be changing the rear springs.
Never would have thought you would be doing all that just looking at the pics you posted. Looked like a well done car that someone had taken care of, just goes to remind us all that we really should check these cars out before buying them. On the other hand, you might not have bought the car and I'm pretty sure when you get it all sorted out you're going to be more than satisfied with your ride. Good looking car, I love it, especially if it sits lower, gets different wheels and some WWWs.
Flushed the cooling system and installed a new thermostat to alleviate overheating problems. Problem solved. Adjusted the rear brakes. The rear end is an older Chevy rear end with the non-removable center cover. I was told it was from a Nova. If so, it would be a very early Nova. Anyway, the rear brakes are not self-adjusting. After removing the drums and discovering this, I adjusted them and the push rod for the MC. I now have good brakes. A very good thing. I did not get my sway bars, so that will be next weekend's project. Also on the punch list is to re-do the AC vents and get rid of the hokey "blow through the speaker grill" attempt plus the other two that are aimed directly at your crotch. Jesus. Last on the list is a Secretaudio SST system. Then, I am ready to drive! Notice the revised stance. I raised the front and lowered the rear. Also, don't give me any more crap about the billet stuff. It was on there when I bought it and I'm not removing it. I may remove the window tint, however. The last picture is the original stance. The rear has been lowered an additional 2" but it's hard to tell from the pictures. The original picture wasn't taken from a squatting position.
I built a new shop and a new home just before the recession. Luckily, I also sold my old home. My shop is an 1800 sq. ft. Morton building with two 30 x 30 work areas. One side has a vaulted ceiling with a 2 post lift in one bay and a floor drain in the other for washing cars. The other side is for fabrication, grinding, welding, and other dirty stuff that I enjoy. I told my wife when we moved int this home, "The next home I move into is either the nursing home or the funeral home!". This is where I intend to spend the rest of my productive days. I hope to retire in about 5 years. When I do, you can find me in my shop until I am either no longer able to do it or am too broke too afford it. The house in the last picture belongs to the dealer that sold this car to me.
It's as close to perfection as I can stand. Keep the tint, add some grille teeth, and if you get any more heat from the "purists" here, refuse to post any more images. Send them to me via e-mail though....I love your car......Well done Sir....Centurion9
I like the "new"stance, much better! btw, I envy the size of your garage! one day, maybe one day............
agree with everone else. tint, wheels, ( id ditch the steering wheel too for something a bit more classic lookin, wheels and tires and youre good man
Nice to see everyone is rebuilding your car...now maybe everyone can contribute some green backs to make it theirs. You must have bought it for a good reason..
Great looking car. Want to hear what I'd do to your car?.....too bad, I'm not going to tell you. Sure I might change a few things but, it's not my car so it doesn't really matter what I think other that I think you should drive the wheels off that thing. Doc
