These thing always look much worse than they really are especially when the floors are all gone and the rear quarters are flopping around..

Ill get some bracing in it, line up the A and B pillars and she'll be as good as new!

I seriously think the channeling of cars came about from guys seeing rotted out cars in fields slumped over the frame and not at all to do with sports car influence etc. Good luck with yer new shitbox I mean shitbox, I mean project.:D

  3. I like it Pete but I wouln't be looking for its history. Looks like someone got half way through a chop and channel and gave up. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

Hey Pete. Great to be young and full of ambition. I used to be, but today I when starting a project,I want to start with something pretty solid and complete. I bought this 40 Coupe body 20 yrs ago out of CT for $200.00.

Here it was a couple years later.

I saw it at All-Timers last fall and it is now dark red and looks better than it ever did(no picture).
Good luck with the build. Now, do you finish the 41 Merc first and put this away, or will the 40 jump to the top of the list ?

  13. So when the floor rots away and the frame goes thru "that's a channel"

Should be interesting to watch this come together.

Pete I am glad that you have rescued this old delerict and are taken on the challenge to build a fine hot rod as this well deserves to be. Someone had a vision way back when and now you can move forward with your own vision.

I have to admit from your initial description of the previous build / workmanship and the location of the car being in New Hampshire I was really jacked up thinking that it was the lost car we have been looking for. But this is not it . Now I am relived and hope some day we will find it still and have the chance to buy that lost car just as you have done with this one.

So good luck with your build and I hope progression is steady and quick for you.

  17. I've had a love affair with '40 Coupes and Sedans since I was 10 (1956).....There are all kinds...from Beautiful to Stunning. Even the ugly ones are Outstanding......Here's one I saw at a KKOA Event in Davenport about 1991.......It's a '40, it's a Coupe, it's Chopped, and it's somewhere in the middle of Heaven and Wonderful....Who the hell am I to trash a '40 Coupe that I can't afford to own....? No...not hard topped just incomplete.....When I get it home Ill prop the body / clamp it and post some real pics, I love the rear chop, the window is actually sliced and chopped, its just so crude....and awesome! Im not sure im gonna really fix the top all that much, Im def. going to finish the shop and maybe add a 35 pick up crank out windshield....I have a nice 322 Nailhead that might slide right in....

Except for the (ugh) pink graphic, that's straight out of the mid '70s.

This inspires me to drag the 40 Ford 2dr out of the gulley. I imagine one side is rusted away, but it should be repairable. The 40 Ford woody in my avatar was a save, that few thought was worth the effort. Good luck with your new project.
