The roadster is out of the garage right now, and off to get the interior done. To keep ourselves busy, Ashley and I picked up her dad's tudor. For a little background on the car - Dan Webb bought the tudor from Spadaro last year. It is an all original running car, that supposedly has only had a head gasket replaced in its life. Once Dan got it, he swapped in a Moor drop axle and a flattened and reversed eye spring on the front. The rear spring got the eyes reversed, and a kit of lowering shackles (from the '40s/'50s) installed. It also got Richard's hydraulic brake conversion with Lincolns all around. Dan installed a Pines insert, changed the tires, and had P-Wood drop the headlight bar.

Recently, Dan had H&H build up a OHV B motor, with a bunch of speed equipment pieces to replace the stock banger that is in the tudor. The new motor is a 200ci B block, with a counter weighted crank, billet mains, and the Cragar/Miller OHV conversion. Baxter Ford went through a B trans and updated it with a '39 and later gearset, and we picked up a 3.54 ring & pinion set for the banjo. All of this should make the tudor into something Dan can take out and keep up with traffic, and enjoy.

I've been playing with our new camera some, and thought it would be cool to do a time lapsed video on the motor/trans swap on the car. Here's a taste of what we have done so far, and the music isn't set or complete yet either. I'll post more as the progress continues:

Curious as to why you didn't go with a B water pump.

Dennis - I don't know why for sure, but I think they use the A pump since all of the fasteners insert from the front. The B pump has the top fastener insert from the rear, which would be inside the new head.

I love that car. I thought it must have been Dick's old car when I saw it at the Autorama. That engine and drivetrain is gonna be killer in there.

Cool video. Keep us posted on the progress.

My bad! I have the B pump on the A engine and the A leakless on the CRAGAR equipped B engine. It's hell getting old!

    Attached Files:

  9. I must agree about getting old. It looks to me like you have a V8 pump on the A engine and a cragar pump on the cragar head.

  10. That is an amazing car and only getting better.

  11. Great to see another banger built. Dennis runs the wheels off his and they are very reliable.

Alright, thought it would be good for an update on the car. We got the K-member trans bolts, front motor mount bolts, and torque tube disconnected last night. After that, I disconnected the exhaust pipe, and removed the generator and starter. Today, we wrapped a sling around the engine and pulled it out. We also got the steering box out of the car, and it will be getting a box from Neil to update it.

It's hard to show how well this car has survived the past 80 years. We scraped the grease off the K-member that has caked up over the years, and there is some nice shiny paint there!

And finally, the video updated as of tonight. If all goes well, we'll be pulling the rear end out this weekend for a 3.54 gear update, and setting the new motor and trans in......

I don't get you banger guys...you spend mucho thousands of $$$ on a little motor that will only have the same horsepower as a stock 283 two-barrel...:D

    Love that sedan...

That banger makes that tudor ten times the car than if it had a v8. On a side note. I am in the process of building my first juiced up banger. here is my plan. rebuilt stock short block, 6-1 winfield head, 340 touring cam from specialty motor cams, webber downdraftwith matching aluminum intake, header, electric fuel pump with regulator, electronic ignition, lightened and balanced v8 flywheel clutch, clings surpentine pulley system, and a aluminumside cover for looks. I have all the parts in the shop now but before i dig in any sugestion's for a newbie to the banger world. The new motor will be going in a 30 pick up

Time for another update on the car.......

We finished up mounting the trans to the motor, and got the rear motor mount installed. I swapped over the fuel pump from the old motor, as well as the front motor mount bracket and chatter rod brackets. We swapped the column tube over to the new steering box (from NealinCA), and got it mounted in the car after reinstalling the dash. That pretty much freed up the work on the frame, so we decided to set the motor in the chassis.....it definitely fills up the engine bay now!

Hopefully tomorrow, we'll get all of the mounts tightened down.....and maybe get the radiator and shell back on there......
