Three weeks ago today there was a "track day" at the Pomona Fairgrounds using the same road race course as was used in the early 1960's.
The event was used by the Shelbys, Cobras, GT40 and even the rare "King Cobras".
I wasn't going to post them on the HAMB, but with the passing of Mr. Shelby, this time is appropriate considering he was a hot rodder himself.
Many uppity road race guys don't call themselves "hot rodders", but Mr. Shelby referred to himself as a "hot rodder" probably daily. He always gave credit to the making of the Cobra by mentioning "hot rodders" such as Dean Moon and Craig Breedlove who drove the Daytona to FIA records.
So, he was never ever shy about calling himself a "hot rodder" first and foremost.
    RIP.....what a life you had! :)

I met Carroll Shelbys son, Mike, two weeks ago and was surprised to learn that he lives in a very small town in West Texas and he knew my grandpa.

Carroll Shelby was a real guy that made some mistakes but, much greater accomplishments. I even had a fastback '66 Mustang once only because there was Shelby easily available for it. RIP

Yeah, I know there is bigger, badder, and more famous, but this is my favorite Shelby product - '66 GT 350 H.

    RIP, Mr. Shelby.

Great shots as usual, thanks for posting them. Really digging the King Cobra photos. Can't look at one of those cars without thinking of Dave Macdonald...

  26. As a young man of 16, I went to work at my neighbors body shop as a painters helper... so what's that got to do with this thread? Nothing really... except that that body shop was located at the local Sunbeam dealer! Covina Body Shop handled all of Covina Sports Car's body/cosmetic work and because of this, I was able to drive the Ford V8 powered Alpine demonstrator when it arrived at the dealership. That was nearly 50 years ago and it still seem's like it was yesterday! What a rush it was... I have not yet had the opportunity to drive a Cobra but the thought of driving that Sunbeam still brings a smile to my face. Thank you, Mr. Shelby. R.I.P.
