    Resembles a SPAD to me. Tougher but also heavier, not as maneuverable and nimble as the Neuports that pilots liked earlier.

    A "crazy man's" boat - circa 1939!:eek:

    Caption from back of the pic- "Boat
    built by hand. Man went crazy
    because he could not get it out of
    the back yard. Boat removed, 1939
    "
    --------------------
    Methinks the guy was already a bit
    crazy when he started building it,
    for not thinking about how he was
    going to get out of there once it was
    finished!!!:eek::eek::D

    Tennessee, life's short. With so much that's important in the world, even critical, some people like to chip but not contribute. Well, Ryan owns the site -- and this thread -- not them. And this IS an internet "chat" board, so screw split infinitives. Everything is a matter of MIND over matter ....:p LOL! OLD joke! I'll let that one die.

    (Besides, Mazooma kind set the mantra for this thread: Just like yer TV controller. If you don't like something, SCAN ON. There'll be something else you will like.:cool: Still holds true, eh?)

    I apologize because I do not remember where I ran across this photo. BUT, it poses a mystery(ies) to me. Some of the actors
    in this OBVIOUSLY composite photo for the "press" represent Universal, others MGM and, I think, RKO. Seems the pic is 1939
    or somewhat later. WHO wants to ID these folks (note: some are harder than others!).

    He's touching her leg! And we thought "Reefer
    Madness" was disturbing? :eek: Madonna's armpit
    hair was disgusting? :eek: You just never KNOW
    what's lurking in the VINTAGE VAULT! :p Here,
    cover art from the 1950 pulp novel, Lost Souls
    in Bohemia, thanks to VintageVenus.

    Vintage movie actors?? From 1939??
    Oh, thank you, Jimi, for clarifying
    that!! At first, I was afraid that you
    had somehow, somewhere, found
    and posted a pic taken of some of
    my relatives from last year's family
    reunion!:eek::eek::eek::D:D

  8. O.K., guys. Why does the bumper on the DeSoto have the very same three clamps (I know...the one on the passenger side does not show) and has a double curve with a peak in the middle....identical to the '29 Buick?? The 1934 Chrysler Airflow bumper is one long curve. NO offense to jimi at all. I am sure he wasn't the one who wrote the note on the back of the photo. Oh yeah....I almost forgot. The DeSoto/Buick bumper has slightly curved surfaces on the flat bumper face bars. The '34 Chrysler Airflow has very curved face bars with no flat backsides.

    Yo, Dodger, I don't think anyone was trying to be confrontational or disrespectful to another HAMBer. This was something of a mystery from another site (and even the AACA folk sometimes can't find a definitive answer). I feel the HAMB folk are always trying to nail things down, and sometimes it isn't easy, to say the least. It's mysteries like this that add spice to the HAMB.

    What the title says. Recruitement/support/bond effort in the early days (for us) of the war. Appears to capture an "exchange" of fire between two pairs of opposing field howitzers (likely 75 or 105mm). In the foreground, you can make out an AAA display featuring a 90mm AA gun, a single 40mm bofors (probably) and an aerial searchlight and stereophone locator "ears". This aspect was probably accompanied by a flyby of some sort of aircraft for the searchlight to train upon and guns to "fire" at. Sadly, can't make out what's at the other end of the field, if anything.

  12. Sorry about my being adamant about my opinion of the bumper in question. It's just that I am VERY familiar with the Buicks and the Chryslers. I have studied cars for a very long time and in great detail. I am not trying to be confrontational, either. Sorry if I came across that way. I will post this on the AACA site and see what the consensus is.

    Yeah, we're good. Often, too, there are odd circumstances, such as, a customer and his dealer trying to cooperate in "customizing" a car with a bumper the customer preferred -- even a Buick on a DeSoto. I surely don't know. Just speculating.

    More likely the original was damaged and hey... well spotted Dodger

    As for the 'Spad' the only resemblence I can see is the faired V valve gear.
