Wow, it has been another great week here on the Plains of Kansas and I really don't recall a nicer spring than the one we have had this year. Just one nice day after another. I'm starting to like it here after 25-30 years or so since moving from my old home in the Missouri Ozarks...:D
Things got started when Blake called and said he had my new 1938 Buick straight eight engine running and ready for my approval. I had brought it home a couple weeks before and it was just a roll of the dice purchase not knowing if it ran or if it was any good. This was a dirty, greasy old thing from storage and you just never know what you are getting. But it runs great and we enjoyed playing with it.
You can see a video of it running here if you like:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqqvgA0x2-Y&list=UUC1YFgCX1RwamPQxcrHKclw&index=2&feature=plcp

And please note this is not spam and it is not for sale as it already has been shipped to NY to a happy Buick collector.

And while on the road this week I took time to snap a few scenes from whatever looked interesting to me at the time...
Like this old Otasco sign on an empty small town store building...
    Oklahoma Tire and Supply Company
I used to love those stores....but long gone now...

And next to it was an old store building that once sold buggys and wagons and then sold Oldsmobile automobiles. You can see the canopy was added later to the old building and would have had gas pumps under it. The "modern" addition was added in 1921 and had faded letters that spelled "Olds Motor Company"" on it.
    This was in Wilson, KS.

And while I was in Wilson that day I called the local cafe named "Made From Scratch" where I once took Bobk for homemade pie and asked the girls to make me a lunch to go.
I asked for a turkey sandwich and she said that was no problem.
I asked if it was sliced deli meat or what?
There was a pause or silence and then she said...
"We smoke the turkey ourselves, we don't have deli meat here" and then
"would you like some homemade potato chips with that?
Boy, did I hit the jackpot as it was soft and juicy not all dried out like some smoked meats.
I have never had a bad meal at this place. Price was $6.49

Then early one morning on my way to work I saw a pickup and trailer from Texas getting fuel at a gas station and saw they had a flathead V8 and some Model A wheels so I pulled in and talked to the.
They were Hamb members from Houston and I have forgotten their names and were p***ing thru the area going home from an auction in Nebraska.

And by the time we got to the Dairy Queen later that night it was getting dark but my buddy Joe was there with his new build 55 g***er he has worked on a long time. It is a big block car and way cool.
He is paralyzed from waist down and drives it with hand controls.
He drag races at our Salina Lead Sled drags each year in one of his cars and will be seen in this one this July...

Paul, that blue '32 5w with the Hemi was built by my good friend Mike Brown from down here. He sold it to that guy last year. The guy bought it and DROVE it home.

I agree with Paul B that is one good looking pie. I'll have to check the rubarb at mom's today and see if it is ready to pick.

Thanks once again for taking us on another fun trip around Kansas.

Happy Mother's Day to Mrs. PF and all the other Mom's out there on the Hamb.
