You can do a New York "Enhanced" drivers license too. Cheaper and quicker.

Lots to do at the Falls, like others said the Maid of the Mist is a must and go behind the falls on the Canadian side.
Warplane Heritage Museum is very cool and if you book it in advance you can go up
in a WW2 Harvard or a Bi-plane. I've done both and it was worth every cent.
If you have real deep pockets you can go up in the Lancaster.
Legendary Motorcar in Milton if you're in to muscle cars.
Cruise nights all over are just starting up

One of the most surreal and bizarre things I have seen up close in person, is the wind farm on Tug Hill. It does not seem like it can be real, Monster propellers slowly spinning on hilltops as far away as you can see, but your brain says it's real. Freaky feeling.

Consider the Military Communications and Electronics Museum. http://www.c-and-e-museum.org/eng_foyer.html

We stopped there around 2001 or so after seeing the sign - had not known it existed. Large place, lots of exhibits, and staffed by retired military members who know their stuff. I remember it because we were looking at the Enigma machine they have on display http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enigma_machine and a staff member asked if I wanted to try it. He got it out, showed how it works (yes they had the 60+ year old captured device powered up and ready) and I got to encode/decode text with it.

Probably OT, but WWII and other military items are sometimes accepted around here.
