One thread I read just tonight reminded me of one more person to add to my list........Leroi Tex Smith. All of his articles came out of the pages as something we average guys could relate too. He just seems like a real Good Ol Boy who knew how to get car stuff done. I miss his stories.

Keith Moon... Dunno if he was a car guy, but he knew how to put one into a swimming pool, and that sounds like a fun time to me!

Any of the boys who flew unpressurized, cold-as-a-welldigger's-ass-at-altitude B17s and 24s over Europe and Japan, then came home and challenged death again by climbing into a home-built roadster or bellytanker and running it flat out at the dry lakes or Bonneville.

I would love to have a beverage with my buddy Jason Knapik. He was the big brother I never had and died before I realized how important he was to me.

Since we have already interjected people who are no longer with us into this discussion, if I had the chance I would love to have one more round of drinks with an old friend , Pete, who passed in 2001.

He became a close friend when I was going through my divorce and stuck by me the whole time and helped me get through it. He never told me to shut up when I went on and on about my woes, and he made sure I got out every night or so to have a few cold ones and get my mind off of things.

Pete was a stand up guy with a heart of gold and ironically that was the thing that finally let him down...........he had a massive heart attack while I was out of town and I never even got to say goodbye to him. I miss the big lug. :( His family gave me his engine lift after his passing and every time I use it I think of him and his friendship.

  28. I understand how you feel about your friend. Literaly everything bad that happened in ymy life my little brother was there. I wasn;t able to be with him when he passed, but I guess we have probably said everything then needed to be said.

In a way you are lucky you have your friends lift, all I have from my brothers is some yellowing pictures and a USA patch he gave me about 40 years ago give or take. The vultures swooped in before I got there.

He wouldn't drink a beer with me anyway, he was too smart for that. ;)

  29. Oh, that's cool as hell. God bless him!

Now that I think about it, I'd like to have a beer with my old buddy, Chip.
I grew up next door to Chip. He was a Vietnam vet and a real car guy. After my Dad passed away when I was 17, Chip was kind of a father figure to me in many respects and as I grew older he became a good friend. He was killed tragically in a motorcycle accident about 18 years ago. I still miss him terribly. I've had a lot of beers with him but I'd like to be able to have just one more and tell him what he meant to me.
