Here is the rendering Jay Cruz did for my Econoline project, he nailed it, now I just have to finish it.

Daaaaamn. That rendition is fantastic! I was pretty much going to paint mine in a similar fashion on the body with tons of scales, infinity lines, fades and lacing in flat colors and the roof being done in the same fashion but with giant flakes and candy all buried in a shiny clear. Is j-cruz doing any shirts with that rendition or is that strictly yours?

 

thanks mothradeath, Jay did a great job with. I had the parts and look I wanted fiqured out, but wasn't sure what to do about the paint. I just gave Jay the colors I liked and he came up with the design. I'm stoked, now just have to finish it.

 

Bought a '62 p/u about a month ago. Not a faux wheelstand....just my method of degreasing and cleaning the underside of a new-to-me anything.
Despite it's patina...it's a VERY solid example and I am happy and excited to get it roadready.

I think the wheels are American Racing but I dont know what era.....80's maybe.
Chrome is peeling. I like the design, but I am not a chrome expert and don't know if they can be salvaged. Can you sandblast chrome? I would consider powdercoating a bare wheel if I can get them stripped. I am also prepared to get the wallet out.......and buy new.

I DO have a set (pair) of Vintage Fentons......hmmmm.

Thus far:
-Rebuilt the entire brake system
-replaced hoses and installed new stainless steel lines.
-replaced oil and grease seals (except the engine)
-rebuilt the driveshaft.
-pulled the straight axle and installed new bushings and shackles
-new kingpins
-new tie rod ends.
-beadblasted and painted everything I've repaired.
-currently installing weatherstripping - window seals.
-waiting on new windshield.

Need to pull the complete doghouse and heat / sound insulate.
I've used a lot of different stuff, but wanted to hear what anyone else has used successfully.
-I've used Dynamat - good for rattles......
-and Raptor...looks nice but doesnt like heat....
-and Rhinoliner....expensive but looks nice and would be good in the bed.
-Lizard Skin.....my current choice.......so far...



I think it will need shocks.....lol

Thanks. It's a big six, 250ci Stovebolt and 350Turbo trans.

 

Thanks, I'm glad you like 'em.. Yes they are PS Engineering wheels, 17x7 and 17x8's, 205/50's and 245/45's.

Is there any way to increase stopping power in an Econoline P/U?

On the way to work today, some knucklehead slammed on their brakes a couple of cars ahead of me and caused me to jam on my brakes and slide. I leave pleanty of room between me and the car ahead of me to account for slidng. It's just a little unnerving. I know that it's a weight thing with these trucks, but there's gotta be a better way to stop them.

Anyone else experience this with these trucks?
Ideas?

The '61 Econo p/u I own has a set put on by the previous owner, they work great and I know 15" wheels do fit. If anyone needs any pics I can post some.

 

Would disk brakes keep the truck from sliding? The tires stop turning just fine, there just isn't enough weight to keep the tires stuck to the asphalt. The tires are new too.

 

Do you have the factory weight in the back? That should help some.

I don't know... how do non-Econoline pickups keep from sliding? Are your brakes locking up?

 

Yeah, the weight is back there. My brakes are definitely locking up.
Anyone else with a P/U have the same issue?

I feel like Econolines have an odd geometry to the them in compartison to something like a Toyota pickup. Their center of gravity is all weird... Not sure.

 

Got this a while back..15,000 original miles. Changed a few things since, mags, aluminum grill, etc.. good support Vehicle.

Canoe is from 1892.

yes they are strange. When I built mine last I was driving through mountain roads fast daily. I let my dad talk me into lowering the drivetrain. I put a 302 and C/6 hanging 3 inches lower than I had it before. Sure changed the handling--but my truck weighs 3400 lbs--a stock one is 2400. After 43 years of driving one , I have been sideways many times and even sliding a 360 once , luckily never upside down, Once going downhill in the rain I came around a curve and the road was 4 or more inches deep in hail stones-i wes keeping it straight an slowly the right rear started
coming around as the pitch in the road was pushing me off to the left staight into the rock wall off the road cut--I KISSED MY ASS GOODBYE--one of the tires caught and next thing I was sliding sideways my side first but I was headed off the road on the opposite side into the tall pine trees.i was not going to die in a violent crash into the rock wall but fly off into the trees.
Wasn't my day!! another tire grabbed and I was going down the middle of the road like nothing had happened----except my damn seat was wet!!
