Nice shots of this iconic machine. ( powered by two 400hp Liberty engines - c.f. previous workshop photos ) Perhaps the most important, solely US designed, bomber of its time, excelling all records held by other bombers across the world. The Martin Company was important from the view that a certain Donald Wills Douglas, as their chief designer, cut his teeth here and of course went on to greater things.

Though the sturdy, curvaceous Chrysler and DeSoto Airflows were a market flop, Dodge
continued the Airflow styling for several years, in its Dodge truck line. Daniel Strohl of
Hemmings reprised this '39 Dodge tanker from an '88 Hemmings Motor News in a recent
SIA Flashback (search SIA Flashback – 1939 Dodge Airflow Truck: Streamlining Goes
Heavy-Duty for Daniel's piece, including one kept in the Ford Museum). Maybe around
a dozen of these survive around the world. By the way: I can't and won't say what make
    that front bumper is! :D

Hey Jimi, I've seen the Texaco Airflow tanker at the Ford Museum. It's an eye popper! And I dig those turn signal indicators recessed into the front fenders. Very cool truck.

Most parental hand-me-downs tended to have doors numbering "four", so you did very well.

Right on, man. ODD that the truck companies seemed less restrained, stylewise, than the auto companies! Reminds me of a REALLY cool REO, around 1950. I'll have to see if I can find the pic!
