I want to bring my 56 Nomad project home from long term storage at a friend's place, and will need to store it outside. I will be rolling it in and out of my home shop, as time permits, to work on. Any recommendations on a decent weather proof car cover to help protect, and hide the project factor, while stored outside? I believe there is a HAMB'er that works for a cover manufacturer, perhaps some input from him?
Nothing's cheap and good. I've been considering a cargo container. Really good on the weather tight requirement, the rolling in and out could be a problem. Good luck
plus a car under a cover is some thing to pile stuff on, lean stuff on. "it is safe cause it is under a cover"
I am not a fan of car covers for outside use. They trap moisture and dust, and generally do as much harm as good.
Just want to clarify, car is project, would like it to look complete, while outside, but may have door, or hood, off while working on them inside shop. Car is in primer and rust stains so thought it would look better in the neighborhood covered than not. Weather protection for the rain that we get.
Call California Car Cover. They make really good car covers that breath and you will not have the problems with the cheaper covers.
I use epdm roofing rubber for project/parts cars. It comes in rolls 10'x50' to 20'x 100' in thickness of .045 to .090, or you can have a roofer buddy get some from a rubber roof he tore off, This stuff keeps everything dry, can't see through it, and heavy enough not to blow off.

I second that. I have used their waterproof covers for my outside cars and never had a problem. However, after it rains, I lift up on the cover and let the water pour off. When dry, I take the cover off for a day to let the car breathe.

California Car Cover makes the best covers. Don't expect them to "Protect" your car though. Dust gets inside and when the wind blows, your car gets color sanded. They are great for hiding the car from your neighbors.
need to put car on something besides a sheet of plastic or wood alone- they will both fall apart. no matter who's cover you use that actually touches the metal surface for a long period of time will not be good. places like COSTCO sometimes have a temporary fabric car port/garage that has roof four sides with one that you can open and even some type of window in some that costs about same as hi-tech big bucks car cover. if installed properly can withstand most types of climate. a car cover that is falling apart is no better than an uncovered project. a small blue plastic tarp always looks nice.
I got a car cover for my daily driver. I have it parked under a balcony that leaks some white lime stuff. Nothing gets it out, I need to let my car get rained on for a few months for it to come off. I got my cover from empirecovers.com. The trick is to get a cover that keeps moisture off and allows moisture to evaporate if it gets under the cover... Kinda like an underarmor shirt. It will rust or bubble paint if water sits under it. I have had bad luck with plastic and even gotten mold on the paint. My cover was $112, feels flimsy but it was well worth the price and I would recommend especially for extended covering. It is 3 layers lined on the underneath an my dog has been using the sample material they sent me for tug of war and not broken it yet. ... I don't work for them and I don't have any stake in the company.
