53 gravel shields on a 51?

  1. New Question June 3, 2012 on Post #9

I was looking at the parts to go back on my car tonight and I was wondering if anyone had ever put the rear gravel shields from a 53 or 54 chevy on a 51? Or ever seen this done?
    Thanks

They are a different curve IIRC, so fitting them flush might be an issue.

Totally different, needs some fabrication. I could buy your '53 shield. Pm me if you're interested.

Yup. It could be done, but it would require welding the forward curved section of a 53-54 quarter panel onto the '51.

  5. Thanks for the info. I was thinking it probably wasn't just a straight swap. What about the ‘49 – ‘50 ones? I know the quarter panels are different but is the curve at the front the same as the later ones?

The 49-50 leading edge of the "Pontoon" is the same as 51-52, the gravel shields are different looking though. (and I need a set for my 50 Pontiac ambulance)

  8. Thanks again.
My car originally came with the black rubber gravel shields, I ordered a reproduction set of the rubber a couple years ago but when I finally opened them up the other night they aren't really that nice so I’m going to have to find something else to use. I have seen a couple sets of the 51-52 shields for sale, but I thought I’d like to try to get something a little smaller. Kind of like the 49 –50 pieces.

Anyone have a nice set for sale?

  9. So i realise now that a 53 Gravel shield is not going to work on my car. I was originally planning on using the reproduction rubber ones that I bought a few years ago but after looking at them they just don’t look as good as I would like them to. I was hoping to find something small than the original stainless ones that came on the 51-52 cars.

I found some pictures of this car the other day and I was wondering if anyone knew what he used? You can see a small stainless part on the lower front area of the quarter panels. Is it from a 4 door? A custom piece?

    Thanks

The contour of the fenders is quite different... so, not without some serious hammerwork ;)
