  1. The wrecker pulling that '37 Dodge looks about the same vintage and as interesting as the Dodge itself. Tell us more about that wrecker!

1929 International....rumoured to have been a soup wagon during the depression and then was turned into a carnival bus...has wooden fold down stages on each side.

    Thanks!

It started life as a 1936 GMC 1 ton long wheelbase panel truck, in the late 30's/early 40's they cut the top off at the belt line, bobbed the rear and the cut out the cab area and grafted in a 37 Dodge truck cab, the top of the hood and back 6 inches of the hood sides is also 37 Dodge truck, the rest is 36 GMC, it ran a straight 8 Buick after the original GMC 6 and apparently had many engines and trannies till it was retired in the late 50's. It sat behind a service station in a small town till the 80's (the station itself abandoned in the 60's) when a local tow truck company bought it to restore into their mascot, they could not figure out what the ultimately do with it and sold it to a guy when had wrecking yards all over Edmonton where it sat till 94 when my dad found it as they were about to load it into the crusher, he traded an 82 Escort wagon for it. It sat in our yard and was used as a prop in a TV series and then sat some more till we decided to just build it, we rebuilt and updated everything except for the outside of the body, custom frame, mid 70's GM 3/4 ton suspension. (IFS and disc brakes) and now I use it to pull my car trailer and just have fun with it.

The hand cranked Weaver wrecker deck was in the truck from the time it was converted and still works great (as long as your arms hold out)

It was a sitting and rotting project, now it saves other sitting and rotting projects for other people to build!

The original frame was badly bent and broken and cut-up.

I'm interested to hear about its use as a prop in a TV series myself.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!

It was a series called "Jake and the Kid" 1995-96 (Nelvana/Global/CTV) took place in Saskatchewan in 52-53 and followed the life of a mother and her 11 year old son dealing with life on the farm when the kids father never made it back from WW2, leaving the responsibility of the father role to the hired hand.

Not a bad series, pretty tame but it was a lot of fun to make and got me into the industry.

LOL, because the body is not done there are a couple of people here that whine incessantly that it's a POS, even going so far as to call it unsafe... because of paint... PAINT... sorry, it's fun as hell like this and to do the body would take a long time and a ridiculous amount of work that would take it off the road for a long time, they way it is now I will get better over time but not all at once and I can drive it every day and enjoy it.

Sorry for the temporary thread hijack...

A lot of debate as to what it is. I thought I could figure it out, but the body line, especially on the cowl is really throwing me. Anyone have any idea? I checked the usual suspects of the era, but don't see a direct match.

Here are two I spotted at a car lot....the guy is CRAZY on his prices though, I didn't even ask on these because of the insane prices he had on everything else.

I've found guys who have insanely high prices on some things have insanely low prices on others, it never hurts to ask.

I agree but not this guy.....I've tried in the past and he hasn't changed. I've dealt with a lot of different people over the years and this guy is the one hard head who just ridiculously overprices stuff. There are cars sitting at his place that were there 10 years ago and are still there today. Maybe he finds people to pay his price but I don't know where he finds them.

I've honestly never seen an IHC rust out any more then a small hole here in Alberta, I swear they are made of better or thicker steel.

Anybody know of any good salvage yards in Northern Michigan? Going to visit my wife's family there in July. Her family lives in/near Pellston and the Mackinac bridge.
