Hi all, I am just about to buy some slam specialties SS-6 for the front and SS-7's for the back. A mate was telling me tonight that the slam specialties SS series are rubbish..... and that i should go for the RE series, but i was dead set on the SS series as they have a better rating, he was saying that the RE series are better because they have the alloy ends and the ss have moulded ends.... what are your thoughts and have you had any problems. Cheers Darren
Ive had the RE's in my ride for about four or five years now and haven't had any problems. Cant go wrong with the convoluted bags.
Slams own website says the SS are there "updated" bag. They have more travel and an internal bumpstop as well. I've only had mine on the road for a year....but I like them.
The SS bags have 1" more travel, and are generally a little softer, meaning that they have less resistance in the system. They have internal bumpstops, but then again, all Slam bags do. As for what your friend says, not sure what his experience is. We install a ton Slam bags at the shop, and I did, at my last shop. Too many to count. Haven't had a problem yet. I've been installing the SS bags since they came out. Many of my bosses' cars, and my car, have SS bags. All drivers, no trailer queens.
I would think you're safe either way. Slams are some of the best bags out there. I've used the RE before without any problems. Good to hear you're making progress on the Buick.
gday james, slow progress but its progress i really should update my build thread, hows the caddy? cheers darren
Im using the SS7 up front and the RE6 on back. The option for the front was the 2500lb bag....I figured with the weight and the travel it would be a better choice, No problem for almost 2 years now. Good luck
talk to Glen at Air Ride in Bayswater he'll sort you out. just bought a setup with slam specialties from him this week
I just bought the SS bags for my Merc...a couple of things sold me on the SS over the REs; the bags have a longer travel and they don't expand under pressure. I have a limited amount of side space and really can't afford a bag ballooning out on me. Composite components have been around forever, they way that the end plates function on these bags there is no reason that I can think of to expect the composite plates to function any worse than the aluminum.
