This '57 150 2-dr sedan was on the trailer, headed for the scrap yard, the morning I found it...was passing by on my way somewhere else, when I spotted the quarter panel sticking out from behind a garage, and turned around to go back and check it out!

The ol' guy said his truck wouldn't start that morning, so he didn't go to the scrap yard!...'devine intervention'?...I don't know, maybe!

I got it for $200, plus, he thru in another front clip he had behind his garage, then, he delivered it to my shop, 90 miles away, for $50!

Oh! It had a title too!

First pic is it on the trailer, behind the ol' guy's garage when I found it...
Second pic is at my place after I cleaned it up a bit...

Sorry, but most of that car is worth more in scrap. save a few parts then crush it. No big save there.

I once rescued a '60 Hillman Minx station wagon from the Monrovia, CA Pick-A-Part for my boss; no dents, 99% complete and nearly rust free. Cost a grand (!) but I couldn't stand to see it crushed. My boss was given a derelict '59 Minx convertible which will yield a few pieces for the wagon and probably become a planter after that (when's the last time you heard of someone parting a convertible to fix a wagon?).

  7. Here's the little Rambler me and the boy wonder saved from the crusher. It was 8:28 am and the guy was sitting at the gate waiting to go in at 8:30.

Was due to get parted out and cut up for scrap, a 63 Chrysler Newport. Solid local car, very little rust, just a sunbaked interior. Now resting safely in my shop.

  9. I can see this{after a lot of work} with a "dreamcar" style bubbletop. You know, with the stock door tops and the windshield going from the cowl aawwll the wayyyy up and over to the backdeck. Fifties factory show car style stuff. But I have an over active imagination.

Cool idea. I looked at it and thought... replace the windshield frame, brace the frame and turn it into a moredoor roadster.

Wouldn't mind scoring that side trim if it was going to be parted out though.

  12. HEY STEVE,
I was thinkin of you when I started this thread. I'm hot on your heels... I've saved 3 Pontiacs now. I sure have put you on my hero list, for your lifetime dedication to Pontiac Hot Rodding.
Your Drag Racing success and continued support in the southwest, is much appreciated.

    Cheers!

*I do need my Dewalt stuff... someday, when / how it's easiest. I have spares, so no biggy. Maybe i could meet you at your new yard on my next trip to Az.

Going to start a thread on it soon, been keeping track of everything I have done so far with pics. It will be built with mostly recycled parts.
I try to save what I can. There is some really good stuff getting crushed in Florida. I'll have to get a pic of the 49 Crosley wagon I saved, after the 48 Willys is running, the 49 Crosley is going to built into early 60's style altered.
OahuEli going check out your album.:)

That´s a hell of a save! Sounds like a close call, too!
Good on You! Looks like a long-wheelbase Bonneville/Star Chief (?) to me.
Looking at the lower body, You can see what a straight- and solid-bodied car it was. Can´t believe somebody would send something like that to the crusher.
Even if one were to see no value in it on account of the 4dr body, something that well-preserved should still have plenty of "value" even as a parts donor, considering the "collector status" of the ´59 Bonneville Hardtops/Convertibles, with whom this one shares a ton of interchangeable "hard" parts.

I think a damp paper towel and some elbow grease will have that roof looking like new in no time!

The green Riviera is actually a 70, I had one, this one looks way too nice to scrap

  18. What roof? ...wink, said sawzall.

a convertible 4 door and all the doors close, day one.

good 4 barrel motor and tranny, excellent front clip... ect.

    I love this stuff.

  19. I know it's not for everybody... but I just couldn't help it.
Besides... even a 59 Pontiac 4 door parts car deserves a little respect.

    This is the worst side.

She's almost running... carb kit tomorrow.

    * look at the lead pic, first post of this thread.

It will be done by this time next year. I am finishing all the metal work right now and have most of the interior done for it. Its been a long haul but getting close.

I originally bought it locally for $400 with a clean title.

Plans are 3x2 intake, all black with white walls, spokes around, interior is all black tuck and roll except a white insert on the original style bench seat.

    Heres a few more

Its a little tough to tell from the pic but Brocks car doesnt look all that bad. That looks like it is already part of the way there. You'll probably save a little on cutting wheels since the roof is already off.
