If it is a 700r4 you MUST run a throttle sensor cable or else you will fry the trans in a few miles. Lokar makes one.

Overdrives are cool though. Happy freeway driving.

Before you screw up on the tranny look up purple sage trading post & talk with Sumner. Great guy & know ledgable or Bowtie Overdrives make a nice cable set up. You best get correct or you will fry the tranny if it is a good one to begin with. Your friend have any info on it?

    Just another suggestion fer ya.
Use a mix of 50/50 ATF & acetone for penetrating fluid. Best there is & much cheaper than kroil & better. Just remember to keep the lid tight & don't drink it!!:D

    COLUMN SHIFTER CONTRAPTION.
    Hey gang.!
I've trying to avoid the COE like I avoid my wife.
I been working on this dumb contraption or mt column shifter.
    I found a 3 on 3 mast,lever,and linkages from a Hudson Hornet.
After several cuts, grinds, welds and a few Jack bottles It started looking like it would work.
In this deadly contraption,I select the gear on top and unlock it?? from the top instead of the bottom where you would have the tab selectors??
I push the lever up to unlock the pin that hides under the V8 bracket and pull it back to to into R,Then the lever has a spring that pushes it back into its original position.

Even tho I tried to make it look good,I couldnt...my welds are crap and I over grind or dont grind straight, you name it.

I hope its decent looking enough to rock it.
Sorry if I didnt order it from street rod.com like some expect us to do

So, is that Jack hanging on the end of the shifter handle?

  11. That my friend is CAptain SPaulding

  12. Good to see progress again!

  13. Tanks Bob.
I need to study this transmission more or just save up and buy a complete rebuilt th400 ready to hook up to my engine.

Thanks for the tip.Sometimes wd40 only works to kill bugs.
so what happens if you drink that mix?

    Thanks,Man.
I been doing little things to the COE lately,It looks like Im picking up steam.
I finished the shifter, started making a new gas pedal since the C20 looked too goofy.
I also finished all the Power steering brackets.
I hope I start my old "no sleep, some Coe time and lots of Jack" routine.
Thanks for all the kind words.

This thing is SICK AS F***. Just goes to show that you don't need a hooked up shop to build something. We once built a show winning custom motorcycle in a garage with the same tools you have

  15. Thank you sire.
A fully equipped shop would make things a lot easier..
    Maybe one day.
    Thanks for the encouraging words.

  16. I been messing around with my pedals and I started adding more itemsto the engine.
I need to Bleed the brakes,
    finish installing the E-brake
,Getting a Dodge Truck radiator, mock it
    and make the Rad mounts,
engine oil cooler mounts and a shroud,
Buy brake lines for the Transmission-cooler lines
    Buy a fuel pump
    Clean the Gas tank
    Run fuel lines,
    Make a temp wiring job
so I can take it for a spin.
Before and after pics on the pedals.:

  18. Good to see you're on it full tilt.
Can't wait for the story of your
    first drive.

    Hey Seth, Looking Good Man!

Keep it going, it's coming together. One thing I was wondering about as I went back and read your first posts on the Chassis, how did you get 100" wheelbase? did you shorten the donor frame?

You still need a speedometer? I'm sure I've got an extra or two laying around here somewhere. ;) or any other 51 52 specific parts?

I know you won't believe this but I brought home another 52 COE :D Thinking I should keep this one though and maybe swap it onto a modern chassis and drive it,

Your an inspiration for me to attempt it- Thanks

    Thanks for the kind words!
That latest COE is straight as an arrow.Great score...So when will you start your FORD COE Dealer??haha
On the 82 c20 donor chassis I moved the axle forward closer to the Coe cab, temporarily securing the axle and cut the rest off.

The Chevy swap is not too hard.
    Go for it.!

  21. Hey gang.
It is time to clean my gas tank.
I've reading the other posts regarding gas tanks cleaning procedures but I still have a few questions.

My gas tank does not look too bad,Even tho it sat outside with no lid on the filler tube.
    The only few issues are:

15year old gunk stuck to the bottom,It's not much but its really crystallized down there. How do I get rid of it all.

There is not much rust, only surface rust but I want to get rid of it.

I got quoted $120.00 to boil and clean the tank but for that amount I could probably buy a new one or a Mustang tank etc.

If I use muriatic acid or vinegar, will it get rid of the gunk?

I been thinking of slicing the tank in half to clean the inside manually and rewelding it close.

    Ideas?
And where Can I get the hose that connects the filler tube to the tank?
    Thanks

  22. I think if you have to use that tank, $120 is money well spent to
have someone else deal with cleansing it.
Cutting and welding gas tanks is a last resort kind of thing.

  23. Thanks man...I will need to save for that now

Drop a chain inside. Seal openings Tie it to a small cement mixer. Turn on mixer. Shield ears. Wait a few hours.

This is real, not a joke, though I've never tried it myself. Rocks work too, chain is easier to remove. Maybe wrap the tank in an old blanket to keep noise down.

  25. Thanks man.
I might try that if I ca find a small cement mmixer I can borrow locally.
I put some gas in the tank and let it sit for a few days and the gas softened and started to come out..
After I get all the old gummed up gas Ill put some acid in there to see if it cleans the rust.
I will neutralize the gas before adding the acid.

I did a little work on the COE last couple of days.
I crudely installed a 87-89 Chevorlet Astro Van wiper motor to replace the stock vacuum motor.
It seems to work O.K. but the motor is a little noisy.
The wiper motor has 4 wires comin out of it,I assume 1 is hot,1 is ground and the other 2 are slow and fast speeds.
I have no Idea how Im going to wire it but I'll wait til then.

  26. Man On man.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What if you had a chance to buy your dream car?
Would you sell your beloved-not-running-almost done COE to buy a supposedly running driving car that sits across the country?

I am really tempted to put my COE on the market to buy a car that I really really love.....Maybe I'm losing my head.

Oh COE guys slap me back into reality.....
BTW Do you think my COE is worth 7.000 as it sits?:confused:

  27. OK, i'll be first.
    WTFAYT???
    Finish the COE!
Get it to the point of a running driving truck,
then if you decide to sell it, the project was marked down as completed,
not a check mark in the Bail Out column.

    You asked.

I say keep the patina, it's worth more than some fancy schmancy paint job...I've been driving my old Hudson around for a while now in it's el'natural state and most people love it. then you can just tell everyone ''It is done''

I don't know what your dream car is but it must be something you have wanted a long time to get rid of a COE!!
