I am wanting to know what you guys are using for power trunk latches . From what type of car . Thanks . AW1950
you can use just the solonoid from mid 70s-80s gm cars or if you have a good hiding place to mount it and can find one long enough a hood release cable makes a good manual release
I'm using a Honda CRV latch with U-bolt catch. A solenoid wired to a push ****on on the dash triggers the release. A hood spring pops the trunk open.
I've had a few Cadillacs w/ the "trunk ****ers" but always refered to them as "log splitters". Most have problems as people tend to slam them too hard when it isn't necessary.
I used the hood latch from a Hyundai car. The latch itself is centering in the receiver and spring loaded so trunk pops open. I ran the cable to an easy to reach but hidden location, and open manually.
I'm using a hood latch from a VW Bug for my deck lid. Pull cable hidden under seat opens 'er up. I didn't want a T-handle or any handle period on my deck lid. Had some bugs when I first installed it...angle was wrong and would constantly get stuck which really ****s when you need to open your trunk to get to your gas tank. But I finally have it worked out now.
I used the trunk release and ****er from an 80's crysler k car. it releases good and ****s her back down tight.
1998 Pontiac Bonneville worked good in my '40 Ford. I left the handle on to look stock, but I got sick and tired of replacing those cheap Vinteque repros. (Made in China )
I just used the stock Chevy latch on mine and just adapted a solenoid out of a shaved door handle kit. Also have a cable hooked to it that I can pull if I loose power.
The one thing I see here is the fact , above all else is to have a back up pull cable in case of power failure . I guess you could use anything from any type car and adapt it for your own application . I just thought maybe there was a definite favorite , used by other car builders . Thanks for all you ideas guys . Andy..
Anyone have pictures of how they did their latches? I want to get rid of the big trunk handle on my 48 and I'd like to see how some of you mounted the latches and whatever. I can read all day about it but im the type of guy whose brain does better with pictures! Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
