Suicide doors ??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jimmywicked, May 29, 2012.

  1. I here it over and over but I dont believe 4 doors have "rear suicide doors" they have gang doors. Only cars with one set of doors are suicide when hinges are to the rear, your thoughts??

I've never heard that one in my 65 years on god's green earth. They are called suicide doors every where I have ever been. It may be a MD gangster dude thing.

  3. As far as I know any door with the hinges in the rear are a suicide door. Why would a four door be any different than a two door?

What about cars where both front and back are hinged off the center pillar?

  5. I call'em suicide in the rear but believe I've read somewhere they got the name "Gang Door" from the mobsters back in the day. As they made their get-away if the driver ate lead the butter and egg man in the rear could dump the stiff and crawl around to the wheel and beat it.

  6. Also have heard the 4 drs referred to as kissing doors if they both open from the center

  7. Gang door? That's a new one for me.
My car has rear suicide doors

been around a while - never heard of 'gangster' doors at all. Likely a colloquialism. Used more prevalently around Chicago? We ain't never had none of them gangster folks here in Lizardpiss, AZ.

Any door hinged in the rear. The door latches sucked and the streets sucked. The car gets twisting going at speed cause the frames sucked. Latch cant hold, door flies open as the wind catches it. Dudes fall out cause no body gots no belts. "Suicide!"
Ever seen the old black and white films in the 40s, cars going around corners and a pile of guys roll out of the car?! haha!

  10. Yes I understand where the name came from on a two door but on cars like the 4dr Lincoln of the early 60's or the late 60's t-bird 4dr I have heard them called gang doors not rear suicide doors...Some seem to be very offened that there rear sucide doors might have a different name then the one they would like...just my opinion

what is suicide doors?- well its not what you think it is just cause you want to think it!!!
It refers to a door single or double that hinges in the rear of the door(fact).a set of doors that open opposite each other are called GANG DOORS !

    <table id="entries"><tbody><tr><td class="word">suicide-door </td> <td class="tools" id="tools_4288756">
    </td> </tr> <tr> <td>
</td> <td class="text" colspan="2" id="entry_4288756"> A car door whose hinge is near the rear of the car rather than near the front of the car. So called because it tends to fly open if caught by the wind (especially in the case of poor panel fit or an open-top car that does not channel air efficiently) rather than shutting right away, causing the car to become unbalanced at speed and leading to numerous other possibly fatal results, such as the car being thrown to one side and crashing or an occupant thrown out of the car.
    </td></tr></tbody></table>

arrrr!!! Gang doors not gangster doors .hahaha

  14. Never heard them called "gang doors" must be a ghetto thing. Always heard them called suicide doors.

  15. It is odd that you think that some are offended by your "question". All posters just answered your inquiry. Everyone has been civil.
The name "gang doors" for that combination of doors is probably specific to your locale and not widespread.
To the rest of us they're just suicide doors in the rear. You are free to call them whatever you like.:)

I've always heard them called suicide doors. What's important here is that it doesn't matter what you call them. They are doors, as long as they open and people can get in and out nobody cares what you call them. How often do you talk about your doors anyways?

I've never heard the term gang door, but I'm kinda young.. my pop always refered to them as suicides..I would just guess it was a term that got used to sound different from the dealer or its a location thing....kinda like, hey look at that 32 convertible...no that's actually a roadster..

  18. More FNGs trying to change history Thats why the HAMB doesn't have a joke page..Thats what FNGs are for.:D:D:D

  19. All I have ever heard them called is suicide doors

  20. GOOD POINT! I cannot find ANY reference to "gang doors" on the internet. I would invite you or the OP to direct the rest of us to any reference anywhere to "gang doors".
Just because you and your pals refer to something in a certain manner does not make it the accepted terminology. Sorry.

Doors that open from the front are suicide doors, most often referring to 32-34 Ford coupes, cabriolets, Tudors, Victorias, 1935 GM products, early 30s Chrysler products.
No one cares if a Fordor of any make or age has REAR doors that open from the front.
I never heard anyone refer to rear doors on ANY 1936-up to now 4door sedan as suicide doors, ever... until the latest crop of kids grew up and well...

  22. This is a stupid thread. Suicide door is a, made up, term in the first place, so neither is correct. They are simply, rear hinged doors. It's like asking, "What is correct, blower or huffer?" Neither of those is correct, it is a supercharger

call them whatever you want, just don't put them on a car that did not have them originally. that modification is about as cool as Lambo doors.

  25. I can't believe that y'all is a gettin all het up over the name of the dang doors. I meen hell far, ya kin call 'em waggle doors and someone will figure out what yer a sayin'.

  26. If we follow that logic then we can say the term "hot rod" is incorrect because the correct term is "automobile". I don't think I buy it. Everything is a "made up" term at some point. Languages are not static and are always in flux. Whether it is understood and/or in common use will eventually determine what is correct. To me, "blower", "huffer", and "supercharger" are all correct, even though the first two can be considered slang terms, to a degree.

Which is correct in the Queen's English?:D Tea, buttered scones, and a huffer, anyone? One hundred years ago, none of these terms existed.

Gang doors? Never heard of them, but maybe it's in common usage somewhere else. Definitely not here. Suicide doors? Yep, it's in common usage.

Waggle Doors! I like it, Benno!

Doors that hinge at the rear are called suicide doors because if you open it at highway speeds, it's suicide. I've known them, front or rear, by that name since the 1950s.

The only time I've heard gang doors is in connection to doors that all open or close at the same time like men chained together on a chain gang had to keep in step.

  28. And the 60's Lincoln four doors that he references have been called "Suicide Lincolns" or "Suicide Door Lincolns" for MANY years - at least here in So Cal by the girls I know
