putting a back seat in a 1950 chevy business coupe

i searched i swear! how hard is it to put a back seat ( that looks right ) in the back of a 1950 chevy business coupe?

Not hard. Top part lifts straight up. Bottom part push down and back then lift up. Sedan seats are different than coupe so if you're buying a frame beware

 

it all depends on what you are talking about.

 

are you talking about 2 door sedan back seats are different than coupe?

fleetlines have thier own backs, not sure about the bottoms.

The coupe ones are different. I found out the hard way also.. mine was rusty, and just down to the bare springs so I tossed it thinking I'd just find another one. I believe you can use a hardtop seat but you have to get the armrests too.. I ended up using a 4door bottom and filling the corners with foam. Good luck!

Don't feel bad, I did the same exact thing! Mine were rusty and the rotted foam and fabric stunk so I tossed it without a second thought. And then a year or two ago found out they're not the same as sedans and kicked myself.

Everyone is missing the original question: I believe he has the BUSINESS coupe that came from the factory with no back seat!
I've never owned one but I'm guessing there is some sort of shelf or platform that must be removed before a seat can be installed? Knowing GM all the proper clips and holes are there in the floorboard and they just covered them over to make the "cargo" area.
But you will need to find a coupe rear seat (the deluxe models came with one) or do some modifications to a 2-door sedan seat.

I found out that seats are very pricey... I bought two sets to finally get what I needed... the back seat for my HT was $150.00 alone...

 

yeah, mine was a business coupe (styleline special) fixed quarter windows, but I guess it was an option. Its pretty rare I guess. I would think the deluxe coupes would fit too...

 

I just converted 52 Chevy. The rear shelf is spotwelded in place but comes out easily with a spot weld cutter. I found a rear seat spring out of a 49-50 that fits fine. The bottom seat mounts are already in the floor pan. The back seat may require a little creativity as there were no existing mounts in mine, but a little scrap metal and some sheetmetal screws will hold it tight. Your biggest challenge will be finding a 49-52 coupe rear seat. Be prepared to pay some bucks. There are loads of sedans but not so many coupes out there.

 

My 49 deluxe business coupe had a rear seat so I assume that would also work for the 50

 

talking abut seats ,, anyone know were I can find a front seat for a 1950 chevy coupe or what seat can i put in there that will fit? also where is a good place to find parts for this car,, thanks for the help

 

Use a coupe seat.
Sedan seat is different because it sits farther back and is provisionef to clear the front of the whell well.

 

coupe seats are easy and cheap to find. i bought a 40 coupe with no seats . got some seats from 70 regal buick 4 door velour padded. the back seats fit in almost as stock nice and tight. the front seats bolted right in on the front mounts . people thought they were stockers. got seat for 40 at junk yard. made some door panels myself and my interior was finished . for cheap.everyone thought i had spent thousands on it . i never told anyone the truth. that how we do it in da hood

 

Sport coupe is the same size rear area as business coupe except it has a seat, check the junkyards. Good luck.
