Non detergent, you don't want old stuff getting loosened up.

  4. If the previous owner was using non detergent continue with it. What was the previous owner using?

Yes, if you can, find out what the previous owner used...
once bought a 49 Plymouth (driver for work)...thought I do the old car some good and changed the oil the 1st nite of ownership. Changed to a nice detergent oil to clean her out.....well it loosened up all the sludge. I got to work the next day, but I didn't make it back..! threw a rod right out the side of the motor and had to pay to hall it off to the junk yard. Most likely the detergent lossened up the sludge, blocking the oil p***ages, no oil to the bearings...thrown rod....it was white hot sticking out the side of the block !

I run Shell Rotella T in my "A". It's superior EP properties help preserve the babbitt bearings. My engine is a fresh rebuild though...
