First off,I have no pics to be too constructive with, but heres the deal,I have a 59 chevy sedan delivery that I have been holding on to for about 5 years, been a dream car for a while, but I do have a nice 59 camino to do also. The sedan delivery is in primer stage, all outside body work done, needs inner quarters finished, underside of floors finished as well,no motor or trans in it,good frame, needs glass, and everything put together, painted, then interior,Its a valuable car when done, but the way I figure,I have about 7,000 in it,and if Im lucky I can get it painted and driving for another 10,but still will need interior,The trade is a 54 mercury monterey,2 door sedan, running driving car, straight body, new chrome bumpers,302 with a c4,complete white and black tuck n roll interior,as well as trunk.really a pretty nice car,hes asking around 15,000 as is.I know the delivery would cap out at alot more than the merc ever will be,but realistically,I dont think Ill get it done.the merc is a running drivingcar that I could easily drive and have sold by the end of the summer to finance other projects, this is my sole motivation, but am having a hard time giving up a rare bird, that I probablly will never replace.any advice?thanks all.
If you already have something to drive, I would keep the Chevy if it is your dream car, but that is a factory custom mercury, cool car, tough choice. Do what makes you happy, it's easier to get laid in a driving car rather than a project too
You have to be realistic, are you ever going to get the sedan delivery done. A driving car is more a lot more than a non-driving project car. I had someone that wanted to trade a '60 Chevy sedan delivery for my Gasser. It was a mild custom but I didn't like the tail light treatment, color of car or interior, hydraulics, the hugh blind spot and without air, they get real hot. So, for me, it was easy to turn down.
Mercury - dreaming about building a car doesn't get you down the road. Have fun now and build the Elk - should give you plenty of dreams. You can always find another '59 Delivery later - I have always found every car and part that I have wanted, no matter how rare. Now I'm selling off most of my projects and parts and keeping only what I can realistically finish. The cars I have sat on and done nothing to for a decade or more I cannot take for a drive Time flies and before you know it, it is running out. Your life can change in an instant so enjoy it to the max now - my 0.02c....
If your not totally in love with the Merc.,.... keep the Delivery,.. Otherwise you will be talking about it years from now as "The one that got away"..... The car of your dreams in the garage is always worth more than the car you settled for on the road. IMHO Maybe this will give you the kick in the butt, to get over the hump, and start on the delivery again.
Trade is done, believe it or not,I did take all advice here, along with two guys that were with me at the deal,It was kind of tough, but its not like I dont have anything else to fall back on if I dont like the merc,or decide to sell it,Will post pics soon.thanks for all replys.
