I've got the original hand operated wipers, but I keep the blades under the passenger seat in case I get caught out in the rain. Don't head out if it's raining, but I don't get too excited if I get caught. Have to really be careful when things get wet, as the little 89" wheelbase gets out of shape easy!
Sweden, beginning of May started in rain we had a nice drive around 300 miles in total.visited two very nice garages got to see some reel nice rides. Volvo based hot rods, daytona coupe replication, MClaren MF8 replication etc The idea where not to drive in rain but with the heater on and a speed of +60 mph its ok the water blows over the open roadster. Only draw back besides of getting a cold is the serious cleaning after the drive. Karl-Johan Me going south in the rain, no rain
Got caught in a bit of rain a week or so ago in the '29 PU. Wipers were not on, but I went slow and the car has a long visor so it was not too bad.
I ride, and drive in the rain (snow too). Heated, waterproof gear on the bike. Rod has wipers and a heater.
I got caught out in the roadster today.... It SUCKED...! The sun was shining and all was good. The sky started turning black towards home, then all hell broke loose. The rain was bad, but when the hail started falling I had to find cover. After finding a bank drive thru and waiting it out, things looked ok again. WRONG. Within a mile it was pouring and another dose of hail. Railroad tunnels are your friend.
The Cadillac's not my daily, but i've headed out in rain often and even snow just for kicks. (Lost the snow doughnuts video) The vac wiper motor has been working flawless for 3 years now after a sip of Marvels oil, there is no carpet & no plugged hole in the floor & the windsheild leaks. But other then that, i love the look on people's faces when that front bias-ply bails out a puddle.
Living in Oregon you don't really have a choice! When I drove my T from ND to OR two summers ago, not only did it rain but also hailed on my over Fourth of July weekend. Growing up driving in blizzards helps when driving in a downpour, find a car ahead of you and the lines on either side to stay between.
Another guy from Oregon. If you didnt drive/ride in the rain here, youd only rack up about 3 months windshield time a year. I ride and drive year round. I found Fog-X works better inside than Rain-X does. I took my Rain-X off the out side. For me the Rain-X only works at freeway speeds or if its really coming down. Mostly I drive in town and usually its just pisses fine mist or light rain. Tends to bead up real bad and doesnt get swept away. Pretty hard to see out of, especially at night with all the microscopic water beads reflecting on coming headlights and over head street lights!
I've been rained on a few times in the roadster..Just Friday night as a matter of fact on my way to a cruise spot..Didn't even bother putting the top up..The rubber floor matt did a great job of making the inside of the car a swimming pool!..SO WHAT?..It's only fucking WATER! It's not going to melt! Cars were meant to be driven..Check this picture out.. How about driving in the snow? Yeah,I drive my shit rain or shine or snow..
I drive mine everyday because....it's the only car I have. And yes, it poured here all day today and YES I drove it in the down pouring rain. My Coupe is dirty 98% of the time because it is a REAL daily driver.
did anybody else notice only snow was on the side of the road where the car is? now that is a freak snow storm.
I built a 24 chevy roadster a few years ago, after we got caught in a storm I had to drill a 1/4 hole in the floor to let 5 inches of water out of it. My wife was not a happy camper that day, but I laughed all the way home as the little clear poncho she bought at a gas station flapped in the wind.
A number of years ago in Lake Forrest, CA. I saw a poor young guy in a late 1960s Chevy Impala convertible get cought in a freak rain/hail downpoor. He must not have known how to put the top up or something. He had a very distressed look of dispair as he was driving down the Blvd.
I drove my 55 Chevy here in Seattle for 10 months without the winshield wipers working. It was my first car and I knew very little about turning a wrench at that time. I finally got tired of sticking my head out the window and went about fixing them. I discovered the wiper motor was under the dash inside the car and it had cables to opereate the wiper arms. I was so proud of myself for fixing them until I turned them on and one wiper went up and one went down or backwards.
