This is the cause of the most violent vibration ive ever experienced in a hot rod. On the interstate at about 75mph she started shakin and bout took the steering wheel out of my hand. Got off the interstate and crept back home( about 15 miles) and this is what i found.....after seeing it i couldnt believe it made it home without exploding.

Usually caused by hitting a pothole a few weeks, or a few months ago.

I've seen worse than that, not on any of my rides. I've had them 1/2 as bad blow on me before... a sin of throwing junkyard radials on my cars when I was virtually broke. They do give you plenty of warning most of the time, glad you got home safely.

I had that happen once, many years ago, while driving a Pinto on the interstate. It was...interesting.

these tires probly only have about 5 or 10,000 miles on them. The interstate i had been traveling on had alot of construction goin on and had lots of dips and potholes im guessing thats what the cause was but im like everybody else i cant believe it made it home. Ive had tires come up with quarter size bubbles and blow i dont know how this one made it.

That may be the miles, but I bet the age is old. There's a number on tires to check the age.I don't know where it is, though.

The miles don't have much to do with it...time and potholes seem to be the problem.

Looks like a broken belt or two. I had that happen a few times with old tires. Tread looked good on the tires but they came apart inside. Even had wires poking through the tread.

Had that happen several times with bias ply tires, only once with radials.

That's what we used to call a "Dog Knot" here in east Tenn. Couldn't have been any fun on the big road.

What brand of tire is that? Looks like the lump is too low on the sidewall to be pothole damage.

That must be one of those eleven year old tires that our govt' is so worried about.

That's not too bad. I had one do that so severely the entire tread was shifted over so it kinda looked like an S.

  27. The tires they are producing these days don't seem to be built to last long. Check out the tread left. Back in the day you could wear the tread off and not have them fail. Pat

I have had the same problem here lately. Now, we really don't have potholes around here too much, and our roads are pretty flat. We put a brand new set of tires last fall on the girlfriends way O/T daily driver, and about a month ago she said it was "going bump bump bump" Thought she was probably nuts (She is a female you know...) and put her on a plane to Hong Kong (that part was preplanned too). Drove her car the next day.... Well Damn! Took it down to our tire store here in town, and three of the new tires were separated! Looked almost as bad as what you have there. Maybe sometimes I SHOULD listen to her...

Seems to lots of talk on the net about tires these days. The 7yr life span is a biggie. How did that come up? I would think time on the road would be more of a factor, or maybe time exposed to UV rays. There seems to be some missing information. My guess would be that the EPA changed what is allowed in the manufacturing process. Maybe no longer allowing the addition of something in the mix of stuff tires are made of that stabilizes them. The 7 year thing would only make sense if a certian coumpound were to leach out of the tires at a rate consistant with the 7 yr number, or the rubber begins to break down attributable to the lack of something in the compound. Maybe some one out there in HAMB land has a answer.
