is anyone planning on attending? In only its second year, this is proving to be a premier event. Tomorrow is the hill climb. Last year there were some very cool cars going up the hill including a supercharged vintage Bentley, and 11 Mercedes, a 16 cylinder Bugatti and then a host of morgans, 356 Porsches and other neat stuff.

Sunday holds the concours and we are talking top notch, Pebble Beach winning quality cars. The Frenchies are featured this year with a number of Bugattis, Delahayes, Delages and others hitting the greens.

If you are in the metro area, you should think about attending. I'll be there photographing both days.

I was there for the Concours several years ago and it is one of the best selection of REAL CLASSICS anywhere. One guy had five trucks dating as old as 1905, one was a dump truck and one was a log hauler with logs. Quite impressive

Ken, was there this afternoon, will be there ALL day tommorow. I'll be looking for a guy with a camera, you look for a fat guy with a grey beard, OK? There's a double bubble Fiat Abarth, two Allards{ one an Ardun}, an Amilcar, a SIATA, and a REAL airbox '57 Corvette running the hillclimb. Some real cool cars!! Anyone close enough should see this show. It is top notch, and anyone that knows me knows I dont' compliment too much.

Here's a few pics from the hillclimb today, (Friday).
My favorite was the Allard J2, powered by an Ardun-converted Ford flathead. It didn't sound like it was running all that great, but it was very cool. The two Corvettes sounded impressive.
They'll be running cars up the hill again on Saturday.

I love that Amilcar. Great looking ride.

I've gotten a ride in Hal's Benz. That thing rocks! Its so cool to have a car where you are pumping stuff and there's levers and really really crapping brakes. Solid axle was much fun in the wet, we drifted around every corner.

They had "charity" rides at lunch time, up the hill for $50 to the diabetis foundation. I talked to a guy that went for a ride in the Allard. He wanted to ride in it because of the Ardun, should have seen his face when he learned that was Duntov's personal car.

About to leave for the concours portion of the program. I want to get there for field load in. You get some of the best pictures of the day at this point. I tried to find noboD. But after asking one older heavy set guy if he was on the HAMB, he looked at me real funny.

Let's try again. I'll have my Discovery credentials on.

Yesterday was a blast. Hearing that ol' gray mare just burning up the track

I took 1300 pictures yesterday. It will take some time to process them.

I drove the blue 57 Fuel Injected Corvette for the last 2 days at the hillclimb. My best time was 59.25. That was as fast as I felt that I could go with vintage skinny tires. I had 17 runs, including 5 Charity runs which benefited Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. We are leaving soon to
caravan the race cars from the hill to the Hotel (Elegance) to put them on display during the formal car show. Weather has been great this weekend and today looks very promising.

Gary, when we were at the top of second gear I was thinking the same thing. It felt like a cheap hooker, $50 for a minute's thrill and worth every penny. I've lived here my whole life, went to the hillclimbs back in the 60's and 70's, the first go around when real Cobras and new Corvettes ran. I helped work the second go around and now this third version and this is the first time I've ridden up the hill. Ken, I looked for you again. We will get together. Spent 11 hours at the show today, from setup to tear down. David, I want to thank you publicly for the charity rides. Drivers with racecars that had passenger seats were asked to give rides. Many stepped up like Dave, gave enough rides to give juvenile diabetis $2250 on Sat. The drivers only compensation was a thank you.

The details on that Voisin are amazing. Voison was involved in the aircraft industry therefore explaining the propeller radiator. I think there were at least 10 gauges on the dash.

Below is from the ultimatecarpage. Owned by the JWR collection in PA.

    Chassis: 47505
Due to the lack of Voisin sales records little is known about the early history of this or any other C20 built. The earliest owner of this 'Mylord' bodied example is noted French automotive journalist Jean Djaniguian. He eventually sold the unique car to American Cameron Peck. His spectacular collection also included a Bugatti Royale and a Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix car. In 1949 the Voisin was auction and acquired by Maynard Buchanon. After his passing in 1972, Dr. Gerald Rolph purchased the car only to sell it on again in 1986 to the Blackhawk Collection.

For many years the Voisin C20 was prominently displayed in the Blackhawk Museum. During this period the car was cosmetically restored and repainted black with a red chassis frame. In 2006 it was shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where Voisin was the featured marque. Here it was joined by the Bucciali, which is the only other car known to have survived with the Voisin V12 engine. A year later it was offered for sale at the Blackhawk Exposition across the road from Pebble Beach. The new custodian of the C20 'Mylord' was an East Coast collector with a particular passion for 1930s French cars.

Immediately after acquiring the Voisin he sent the car to Brian Joseph for a complete rebuilt. A foremost expert in rebuilding sleeve-valve engine, Joseph was certainly the right person to get the V12 engine running properly again. During the restoration the chassis was repainted black. The work was completed in time for the 2009 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. The new owner's efforts were repaid with a 'Best of Show' award. He decided to part with the unique machine and offered it in Gooding & Company's March 12th Amelia Island Auction, where it sold for a very impressive $2.75 million.

I went up to one gentleman with your description and it didn't work out.

I know we walked by each other. I got there at 6. I woke my 13 daughter up at 4:30am to get there in time... to watch the guys hammer the entrance carpet. She came along to participate in the Hagerty Youth Judging program, which was pretty cool. Getting Admiral Phillips to tell his ownership since 1960 of his 55 Ferrari Mondial.

    regards

    Ken

Incredible field today. Really, really enjoyed

That Vette sounded awesome roaring up the hill! I have some cool shots. The front end was so cool looking.

I would loved to have gotten a ride up in that bad boy.

    Thanks for hitting it good.

Ken, Thanks for posting this photo of one of the Charity rides. Honestly this part
of the event was as much fun as the competition part. Looking at the expressions on the riders faces was priceless as the end of the run.

Very cool. Do you have any info on the history of the car? I'm going to do a blog on Velocity.com about the hill climb and am looking for some info on various cars.

I need some help identifying some cars. Can anyone give me history on this car? Wayne Corini was bombing up the track in this little guy, running 56's all day long.

That was a historic car, built in the early 60's with a porsche carrera motor. It weight nothing and just tore it up the hill.

Here is a cool shot of Hal hauling his Mercedes up the hill.

I wasn't going to post more pics because these aren't exactly HAMB material, but there seems to be some interest, and I like them, and many of these are kind of "cousins" of the hot rods we love, so....

This started life as a '47 Beetle, still runs mechanical brakes unless that was changed during the "restoration". The original builder and owner until about 2 years ago was Bill Routan. Lots of history in this car. Yes it has a four cam Carrera engine. Mr. Routan ran it at the second go around of the hill climb a few years ago. The car had lots of warts and scabs and was extra cool. Beatnik Pirate, what do you mean HAMB friendly? The tan AMILCAR had a Riley headed Ford banger in it. How about Ben's Ol' Grey Mare with a hopped up 21 stud flathead? Sorry, I missed you and Ken. Maybe next year we will have some HAMB and grey poupon.

They are HAMB Friendly for sure! If you rome around the HAMB there are a lot more than Hot Rod & Custom threads. Some HAMB members make a living maintaing those cars too.Bob:)

I've found I've had to pick and choose carefully in what and how images are presented. But when appropriate, I've been amazed at the depth of knowledge and experience in the residing community.

Speaking of HAMB friendly, this Bugatti hot rod is part of the 3 bug swop about returning 2 back to their original configuration. This one was the remaining Type 57 SC motor. Its chopped, channeled, louvered and just about as low as possible.

Sounded awesome coming up the hill. And as Judge North noted "2 years in a row we have the fastest Bugatti on the hill."
