I’ve been eyeballing an ’85 Jaguar with no engine or trans here in town to scavenge the IFS and IRS. Once I get the suspension out from under it, I’d like to try to recoup a little money from the purchase price by scrapping the body. Aside from leaving the car on the trailer as I disassemble it, (not an option), what’s the easiest and cleanest way to get the shell back up on a trailer to get it to the scrap yard? It seems like it might be a pretty stupid question, but I really have no experience with this and I know the wife will want it out of sight as quickly as possible. I'm not sure how much it''ll even bring at the yard, should I just see if I can sell the thing to a scrapper that will haul it off for $100 and be glad it's gone?

To keep this on topic, the suspension will go in my 57 F100

take the supsension out on the after it's on the trailer. it's a pain in the butt, but can be done. I did it on a ranger a while back. not sure how suspension is installed on the jag, but if it was orginally bolted in do most of the disassembly off trailor then load the car and pull the last few bolts. FWIW

And if you can't do that ^^^ a scrapper should take the remains away at NO charge.

We've pulled empty shells back onto a snowmobile trailer with a come-along, your may need to put a copuple planks under it to help it slide. A FUN option, is cut it into pieces with a sawzall, that way pieces can be loaded by hand. Done a number like that.

I hauled a volvo to the scrapyard like that, in the back of my truck.

The neat thing about cutting it up is that it then looks like the remains of a stolen car.

A friend took the rearend and front suspension from a truck and a scrapper came and used some pipe and a winch to roll/drag it on a trailer.

Roll it on log ends or whole logs with a winch or come-a-long

  13. More trouble than it's worth, call the scraper.
Guaranteed; he will get it on his trailer as he does this stuff everyday..

  14. I block them up and back the trailer as far as I can then winch the rest of the way.
then I fill it up with all the other scrap I have. Just did one last month.

I will be doing the Jag thing in the near future too.

  15. Not trying to sound like an idiot but if you can't figure out how to load a car should you be the guy building a car for the streets?

Hi there, another thing is if you have access to a tractor with a front end loader, lift up one end, and back the trailer under it,then push it all the way forward with the bucket.or maybe hang it from a big tree and back under it?,where theres a will there is a way. Harvey

I bought a newer rust free southern truck for the rear axle. Took it to a storage business where they rent you a 20x10 space outside for 20 dollars, and it's protected, then put the truck in the local classifieds for parts. Sold the bed, frame, bumpers, doors, windshield, gas tank, etc. all except the bare cab even though I had the title. So since everything else was gone I just took the saw to it and threw it in the dumpster. It would have cost me more to haul it to the scrap yard, since it's a 50 mile round trip.

  19. weld or bolt some heavy casters to the bottom of the thing and push it where ever you like.

The planetary grid hypothesis postulates that the earth is covered by an invisible web of energy which is concentrated at points of telluric power, the convergence of which create unusal phenomena.

Learn the telluric grid dynamics of your area and part out the Jag at the appropriate location.

Then it's just a case of simple levitation.

    options not mentioned yet...

    1) forklift (I assume you dont have access to that)
    2) if you can get it light enough, engine puller might be able to lift it off the ground, back the trailer under it, then drop it.
    3) dont take the car home, remove what you want from where it is, and leave it there. Make that part of the deal when buying it.

Our kid wanted to scrap our old 30' Motorhome. He cut it up with a Sawzall and hauled the pieces in a Ford Ranger. Used our engine puller to lift heavy parts.
Easiest way is like I did a Camaro. Took what I wanted then called junk man with rollback to take it free. I had the subframe, rear, etc.

How nice is the trailer? Rolling it on its roof will make unloading easier. Saw-Z-Allings a 1976 Hurst Olds was a lot of fun back in the day, and four pieces load a lot easier than the whole leftover lump. Bob

Have your outta work son in law do it at his house. I did, worked fine.
Got the running gear, drive line and engine management systems, paid him $500 and he got to scrap the rest. 88 XJ6. He still thinks he got me.

  27. Call a charity to donate it to. Tell them it is without suspension and see what they say.

Just be sure you call a scrap yard not some idiot who might come back later for your lawn furniture!

  29. I set one on a cart, rolled it to the back of the trailer and drug it the rest of the way on with a winch.

Scrap guys will get it from anywhere you strip it. They might even give you a few bucks for it.

Or you could pop a couple of rounds into the trunk, throw in some of your old clothes covered with blood from the butcher shop or your local Voo Doo Lady park it front of your local busy body's house and watch the cops haul it to their forensics lab  :D.
