Harbor Freight spot welder

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Frenchy Dehoux, Jun 18, 2012.

  1. I know a lot of you here do not like any tools from Harbor Freight but so far I do not have any bad luck with their product. Any one using the Harbor Freight spot welder for small job how is it working for you.

    Thanks

    Garbage.

I have one that makes a little blue spot on 2 pieces of sheetmetal.

Thats it... Thats all it will do.

  7. Really? I get nice welds, plenty of tear out when I destructive test. Are you using a 110 volt?

I get great spot welds all the time, must put pressure on the grips, clean metal & hold power until desired weld. I have a 110v.

    I got the 220V version.

Maybe I should open it up and see if there is something wrong inside...

I try o never buy Chinese products...I don't care if it's a pair of socks or a hammer! Everything they do is reverse engineered from either the US or Europe. Lots of their product is made to sell at a price point, it has nothing to do with quality. Beyond the whole quality and lack of consistency in that quality is the labor issue. For every dollar you spend on Chinese crap there is one less dollar going to American manufacturing, to say nothing of the wage slaves being exploited by multinational corporations over there.
We all vote with our wallets and I know for myself I am conscious of my purchases and where and what entity my dollar supports. End of rant!!

if it was free i wouldnt take it..

look around on craigslist buy an old lincoln one that they used in bodyshops..bullet proof and will last longer than you...the old ones are green..there a compression type, and a double electrode..both are awesome the ones form the 40s and 50s work better and never fail..around 100 to 150 is what i see them go for...most people dont know what they are...

  12. unplug it first!:D

In all my years in the body shops I never have come across an old Lincoln spot welder. Weird.
We have a real nice american made spot welder at work. Built right here in Spokane...........was only 15,000
