So sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to everyone who has been displaced by this terrible fire! I hope you are able to salvage some of the parts.

I think if mine ever went I'd take the money and buy a foreclosure at half price. You saved the most important things. your lives.

I',m thinking I might be able salvage the blocks, heads, but who knows? the pistons in one engine melted, the amount of heat became clear to me when I went to look for my extension ladder and found a pool of aluminum

Wow! That was hot! Unbelievable! It seems our beloved state has been trying to burn to the ground for all of June... I know of many who have been affected and my heart goes out to all of them. I have been watching the "High Park" fire since June 9th from where I live and now, the "Springs" area. I am sorry for you having to count your losses. What is important is that you made it out OK... the rest is just stuff. This too will p*** and life as a hotrodder goes on. PM me if I can do anything for you... Robber

  9. I very sorry to see this. But it seems to happening more & more, between the 100 deg temps, terible winds, & pine beetles its crazy. I live at 9,000 feet just west of boulder, we've seen a number of fires. This year I'm just scared to death.

I hate to see these things happen . You have to be so greatfull that you and your family made it out OK and weren't hurt . The house & shop can be rebuilt and some of the things can be replaced as well .
I do wish you and your family the very best . My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family .

    Amazing time-lapse video.

You guys with uninsured losses will be able to recover that, to an extent, on your taxes for the next several years. Having had a tornado wipe me out in '03, I've had first-hand experience in losing it all in a disaster. Best of luck to all in the areas affected by these damn wildfires.

This motor was for my last build (I'm old) probably some kind of 50's style road racer, I was in the big ideas, big pile of parts stage.no real plan just one of those I'll know it when I see it kinda things.

I had some insurance, I'll be fine, some of the other 257 homes lost did not, for some it'll be the final kick down the stairs.

I went up today and poured ATF in the cylinders and the rocker ***embles. the motor will have to come apart and be redone, it was a fresh rebuilt and theres a real possibility the block is not warped, the heads were sitting on the floor and may not be warped.

Might want to find an expert in metalurgy that can tell you what might be brittle after a fire.

Sorry for your lose. FWIW, I bought a cast iron band saw that was in a fire. All the threads were pulled, stretched, couldn't get a standard bolt in them. Bearing bores were eggshaped. I threw it away.

one family up here had everything right cement shingle roof and siding, pond, cleared area around the house etc. to the ground. I heard a story about a Kurtis, and a Morgan 8 that went. everyone is right about knowing whats really important, for me ,it was just stuff. now I'll see what can be salvaged.

  28. The good thin to come out of all of this is, you are alive. Like I said before, just concentrate on the good and look forward.
I have been burnt out totally twice, lost everything both times. Trust me when I say, don't look back!

    Doc.
