41-48 specials used that body. The trim tag on the firewall will have the year as the first 2 digits. I've always lived that graceful design and all GM lines used variations of that bodystyle 'till 48..here's a photo of my Pontiac [1948] variation...solid as a rock!
Ratrod for sure the guy that sold it to me has a motorhome with a 454 hed sell cheap so i figured ratrod it together i know nothing bout chevys but nows the time to learn
Trust him... Great find and that was the most you will ever buy in this day and age for 25 bucks! Have fun and keep us posted
Words to live by here on the HAMB. It will make a nice custom though and if it is a work in progress while you drive it that will do.
NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER. You are going to "customize" it. R.R.s are not permitted, tolerated, respected, or even appreciated here. I'm telling you this because I think that hulk of a car you paid 25 magic beans for has potential to be wicked-cool with a lot of time, money, and hard work, and I'd like to see it come together. But if you truly are planning to turn it into a R.R., you won't get any help from anyone on this board. Good luck!
Gonna make a cool ride! Looks like some good salvageable items in the car in the foreground in pic #2. Good original instruments, steering wheel, glove box door and center panel on dash. If he would sell the car for $25.00 I'd see if I could get those parts for trading material at a swap meet. Might help snag some things you need for this rebuild. But then that is what I would do.... OH yeah and has been reiterated.... "R** R** is code here for piece of crap ,gonna git killed in ,cobbledtogether outa junk 4 wheeled rusted out no floorboards piece of shit and like Voldemort, a name not mentioned!
The lines of those car's are beautiful, and without much work look great! Take your time and do it right, especially with such a cheap buy in. It makes scrounging/buying parts much easier. As far as making it a RR..well, there is one running around here with no rear fenders, no hood rattle can looking black with crude flames. Seen it twice and both times just shook my head in disbelief. It looks like SHIT, sorry. Of course, that's only my 2 cents so do what ya want. Regardless, cool car and best of luck. Tony
Ok ill never use the rr word again but im not gonna dump 20k in her either lol how much you think i could get rear fenders for?
I think that fender fits several years but first you need to get it home and figure out exactly what year and series it is. After looking at photos online it looks to be a Special but I don't know what year. The good thing is that you don't have to be in a panic to find a fender and it won't hold you up much if any if you don't have one until a lot further into the build. I don't think it will be that hard to find one I have no idea of what one would go for.
First things first... Go do your intro. It's in the rules, check it out. EDIT; Nevermind. Just found it... sort of.
i looked at a pontiac fastback a few years ago the guy wanted $700, it didn't look as nice as yours, these cars look nice chopped.
Was there an Olds sister to that car? My neighbor has a custom/street rodded Olds that has the same lines.
i think i have seen a couple threads on here of chops, maybe even a section job. heres a thread, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=208995
