    Hello fellow H.A.M.B.ers!

As some of you know, my friend Chris and I are making the trip to Bonneville this year in our Model T's....my '26 Roadster:

    ..and his 1917 speedster:

Unfortunately, a mutual friend of ours who had offered to drive the truck and trailer rig (for support in case of the worst) could not get the time off and in this late date, have no one to replace him.

So he and I will be making the trip alone with no support. We most likely won't need it, but you never know and while both cars are all new....they are also mostly untested.

This bring me to the reason for this Thread. We are taking mostly older highways (for the drive and not to get run over on the interstates) and want to ask if there are any H.A.M.B.ers along our route that might lend us a hand should we run into trouble or need repairs?

    Our route will be :

Portland to Salem via I-5, Salem to Burns, OR via Hiway 22/20, Burns to Winnemucca, NV via Hiway 78/95 and the final stretch to Wendover Via I-80.

Anybody along the route that would be willing to help if we run into trouble?

    Take my cell number 734-673-6930
Call day or night if you have an EMERGENCY and I will do everything in my power to get you the closest HAMB person, or friend of a HAMB person I can.

Thanks Mazooma! We are planning to down from the 10th of Aug through the 14th for the opening weekend (sadly have to be back at work, so I can't stay the whole week), but when it the friday night meet at the Nugget? and is the Nugget in Salt Lake City?

Thank you so kindly! This is the sort of thing that makes me love the H.A.M.B. and the people here. I don't anticipate any problems, but it is nice to know that there is someone out there we can come to if we do have an emergency.

The Nugget is sort of the unofficial hotel in Wendover...friday night is a big "meet-up" and every evening there's guys having a sort of car show BS session.

I certainly do still have your number and will let you know if there is anything we might need. I think we are hitting the road Aug 7th and should be in Wendover on the 9th.

    When are you heading out?

Yeah, me too....I was at the Nugget two years ago and they don't have wi-fi...the manager candidly told me that they don't want people up in their rooms messing with their computer...they want you downstairs gambling and drinking. No shit.
No wi-fi, you can't buy a magazine at the gift shop and no room service...they want you spending money gambling.
    Bullshit.
Across the street they have free wi-fi at Montego Bay....!!!!!!!!!
I don't gamble, don't have any use for it, but I do love down loading my photos each night and putting them on the HAMB.
But in 2010, I felt like I dropped off the face of the Earth.
By the time I got home, I had 2,000 photos to go through and by then "Speed Week" was old news.
and the Bay has a good deli so you don't have to spend time at a restaurant type joint.

The manager at the Nugget said that if I wanted wi-fi service I could hang out at the Pilot truck stop.....gee, no thanks...
    See ya there....

You may want to join this discussion. I believe many of us will be trading cell numbers.....

    FYI
There is alot of lonesome country out across southern Oregon and northern Nevada.
The interstate down through Idaho is alot more HAMB freindly .And quite a few of us
go to the salt .Something to think about .

  16. Don't forget our Friday night HAMB BBQ at the Bend! We will be setup with a banner somewhere next to the road.

    You guys are tough!

Pinman and Squirrel make some good points. Boise to Wells Nev. to Utah offers alot more help if needed.

I was just trying to let them know what it's like, not trying to dissuade them. You get the full effect of old time driving, being out in lonesome country. It's neat.

Thanks Larry! ...I'm guessing we are going to need it. :D

Sweet!, glad I made the reservations there then! Glad to here the big meet up is on the 10th...our first night in town! :D

Thanks kindly...that is one heck of a compliment! :)

There will be plenty of pictures to be had....and a magazine article or 2 to go along with them :D...

    lol! Thanks dwaynerz! :D

Good call, might think about changing the route then.

What we want is a good route without allot of hills or steep grades or fast traffic that might kill us.....just want to cruise and have a nice trip.

Which Friday?...the 10th or the 17th? Would LOVE to come!

You guys make a very good point. Being out in the midst of nowhere is nice until we have trouble.

What good are your contact numbers if we can reach you because of no cell service? :(

might just have to take you up on that idea of a route change.

If you have two cars, one will still be working, if you do have trouble. Just don't drive into each other!

Nope, this will be my first "pilgrimage" to the salt. I'm going primarily because my grandfather went for the first time at my age in 1952 ....60 years ago this year.

...well that IS the plan at least not to run into each other, but no promises ;)

  26. First Friday, before racing starts on the 10th. I/we are working on some cool raffle items to help Save the Salt.

So Chris and I have chosen to alter the route in favor of more H.A.M.B. friendly territory and better cell coverage just in case as many of you suggested.

Who else is running this same route that could roll with us and what H.A.M.B.ers are in the area in case we get in a jam?

i'm leaving on the 8th or the 9th, so i'll probably pass you on the road. are you taking 80 across?

  30. I'll be heading (most likely) down the center of Idaho and hope to make it to Boise Friday night the 10th (I have to work most the day Friday :() I'm driving a flathead V8 car, so I too am a little curious about help along the way. You guys give me a buzz if need be...if I'm close I could lend a hand...
