I think making some 1" spacers would be fine. Or... is there a smaller balancer you can swap in???

  4. great work... your fab/metal skills are fantastic

  5. Sometimes the simple things are so difficult to figure out, yet the complicated stuff just falls into place. I have spent days trying to figure something out and then "click' lightbulb turns on.

Thanks for the compliment, that's the beauty of hotrodding, everyone likes something different. Most guys who don't like someone's style of build rarely comment on the hardwork that goes into it so I really appreciate that.

    Thanks a lot guys.

    Ain't that the truth.

Needs a touch of work yet with the hammer and dolly in the lower flange but I'm sure glad I chose to make one, this looks a lot better than what I had.

Thanks, it actually took longer to section the original grill than it did to make this one from scratch. All in all including making the pattern it only took about 3 hours total to make including the welding and grinding.

  11. Very cool! Nice job all the way around.

Added some gussets to the rear kick for strength:

Basically the rear is done, just need to install the rear body mounts I've been working on and its finished and ready for welding.

Just wondering how you are going to sleeve the 4 bar mounts and add some gussets as they are out from the frame a ways and I would guess that they would flex a bit. Not nit picking, just curious as it looks like you have it well under control.

Thanks for all the comments guys, much appreciated:cool:

The grade 8 bolts for the four bar links are mounted through a heavy wall DOM tubing that goes all the way through the frame rail and will be welded both sides. I am also going to add some small gussets off the DOM to the frame rail. I'm thinking that should be plenty strong.

I figured you had it under control looking at the rest. The rest is done up so nice that I guess thatis why that caught my eye. Carry on.

Or you could put a drop in the tie rod (Ford did around 1940?), or use dropped tie rod ends like Chev did inthe early 60s (see Moog #675).
    Spacers would be simple though....

Finished up the rear mounts last night, been dicking around trying to square the decklid and not getting anywhere, I've tried everything it just won't sit proper. I'm under the assumption that the aftermarket skin I put on the inner panel is just poor quality.

I kept the old rotten original skin when I stripped it off, its pretty mangled to say the least, rested it in the trunk opening and it sits way better than the "new" one. Decided that I'll spend the day trying to get it's shape back.

    Here's what I'm up against:

Stripped it of all the bondo, welded all the cracks on the flanges and started working it in the English wheel. Had to tweak it abit in the shrinker/stretcher and welded in 3/8" to the bottom flange. Starting to fit pretty good now.

Still need to body work it some more but what a difference. Removed the inner trunk and will work on putting it in tonight or tomorrow.

Your work looks really nice. I'll never understand bags on hot rods though. Customs yes....in any case.... Get that thing done and drive it!

  25. Trunk lid is looking really good. Your fab work on the frame is (as I said before) incredible. One qusetion though. Considering how low you built it, why not an "underslung" chassis design? I had a 30 A built that way last year. I loved it.

thanks, I pretty well have everything to finish the car so hopefully I'll be all that much closer by the end of the summer/fall.

Thanks again. That's a good question, I had contemplated an underslung chassis design for the build. I chose air because I have never tried it before and I like the fact that I can slam it when I want and also drive it anywhere and not worry about scraping all the time like I did in my sedan. I've got 6" travel so I'll be plenty good for any parking lot etc.
