Y'alls opinion, how do u think they made this happen on a 54? Because honestly im obsessed wit it and want do it as soon as i get out this hospital bed

  10. As a Chrysler owner, I can ***URE you that those are '61 and '62 Chrysler. They are NOT Lincoln and they are NOT '61 DeSoto (as if you could find one of those).

What I saw done in a lot of the old hot rod and custom magazines was that they cut out the sheet metal that needed to go and then formed the new shape out of round rod that they bent up. They would weld that in place and then start filling in the void areas with pieces of sheet metal.

Once that was done they would make up some brackets to hold the new quad light buckets in place and then finish up the bodywork with either lead or plastic filler. Not an easy job but doable if a person has some bodywork skills and welding skills.

Hope you get better soon, being in a hospital is no fun.

  13. If you can find a donor, those Chryslers have a spot-welded inner piece that would save a lot of work making the actual mount for the light, then you'd do the round rod and sheetmetal to bring the fender to the shape like was already said. One with a little rot would probably work just as well and be cheap.

Edit: The Lincoln are similar, too - see http://www.sda1.com/timfiles/images/Linc_58_2.gif

Those headlights are cool, but that chin spoiler/bumper has got to go, just my opinion.

  15. That's a '55 Pontiac bumper and grille tacked on the bottom.

Plus ive been thinking about while ive been stuck here in this bed pluged and shot up with dilauded what do yall think if i convert my rear fenders with 53 caddy rear fender with these headlights, 57 caddy bumper n grill and 6front n 7.5rear chop top laying frame on my 54, the reason why im gonna go bananas n go full kustom on this project is this car is rusted as hell n needs alot of rear patch panels so a cut, chop, add n fill method sounds good

Ill probably do lead, i never use that bondo garbage. U think maybe finding some repro parts online and using it would help such as buckets and bezel? Bending the rod behind the bucket following its lines would work no?

Frankie... you can start with a wanted ad here in the cl***ifieds.... then look into Craigslist... then ebay.

You should be able to find the parts you need! :)

First of all, not ALL kustoms need to be, or should be chopped...and your measurements are too radical...it'll look like someone stepped on it...the roof will end up being too flat...

Secondly, a '57 Caddy grille/bumper is way too wide for the '54...you'll have to narrow it, a lot. The '53 Cad taillights would be OK, but they'll stick up above the trunk a lot if you simply attach them to the stock fenders...the headlights are OK if you can find a set...they are not easy to find...

Keep in mind these are my opinions...and IF you want to see my build...go here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=329070&highlight=the+best+55+caddy+build

There's about 35-50 pages there...be prepared to spend several hours reading and looking at pix...and it'll give you something to do while laying the hospital bed...keep on dreaming, my friend...and get well soon...!!!

I mean to write 1959, not 1960. But after going back and looking, they aren't. My bad.

  24. Nobody repops '61 Chrysler headlights, you can barely even find replacement lenses for those cars (one guy, in Australia, cottage industry and still big $$$ for the end result).

Car would look fine if it had like a Stude pan or something tucked in close to the grille instead of that Pontiac bumper, it looks like it was tacked on because someone had it laying around the shop or something.

A '57 Caddy bumper/grille combo might work, you'd have to take the width out of the center but it comes to a peak so it can be done. Headlights might not clear the bumper though. I'm in a similar delimma with my Chevy; I have a set of lights I want to use as canted quads, and can't decide what I want to do for the grille and bumper or rolled pan.

I found bezels and waiting on reply for buckets too, I should be gold with all that right? Rear caddy fenders I've only found on complete one on eBay still having trouble with that, anyone have another ideas on the rear maybe another vehicle idea that would work?
