You handled it well, as for some of the responses here they are NO better than what the guy said. And red rims?, they are wheels not rims.

You have a great car and the people that count know you do.

A friend has a nice post war 40's coupe that has nice paint and interior - no
RR or POS. He is kind of new to the scene and has become very discouraged and will rarely take it out, is threatening to sell it, because of the negative comments from various stuffed shirts. This hobby is full of negative opinions and they show up on the HAMB too.
Nice 32 sedan, keep having fun with it - there are always those of us that appreciate your and others efforts!

Its all in the eyes of the person looking. My sweet little austin pickup gasser won a award for best rat rod at a show. It isnt a rat rod but I think because the interior and the body work is not done the frickin people doing the awards just took for granted it was a rat rod. I kept my cool and kept my mouth shut about the insult.

Could've been worse! The other day I pulled in to a parking lot in my project '53 Chevy, and I had some kid ask me if I was going to "turn it into a donk..."

I politely asked him "What the FUCK is a DONK?!?"

He said, "Man, you know, like some 28s and a system..."

I pretty much told him to pull his head out of his ass, while informing him of my personal opinions of his 28" circus wheels and his obnoxious system that wakes my son up at 3am with that crap they call music.

Yeah, man. I'm a 38 year old white guy with a '53 Chevy. I'm gonna build a "donk"... whatever the hell that is.

"Donk", they finally found something more offensive that "Billet".

Sir, you are a better man than I. Here's how I would have handled it...

At the presentation of the awards, I believe I would have accepted my plaque, or trophy, or what-have-you, and before the gazing onlookers own eyes I would have, ahem, exposed myself, and laid a carefully aimed stream consisting of the days post-consumed beverages upon it. And then walked away without saying a word, whilst showing them the non-symmetrical number of fingers God hath placed upon my hands.

But then again, I'm an asshole... :D

Danny, your poor wagon must cry at night having to park next to it. best to stop embarrassing the other NC classic car owners and send it to Seattle.. it would be the star of my garage and give hope to the other rides in my garage..

He's in SC. THANK GOD! 'Cuz I'm in NC, and I know I'D be embarrassed to park next to such a nice car. Mine looks OK if it's by itself in a parking lot full of newer models. But I believe if I were to park next to his car, mine might get towed for obstructing the view. :(

HRP I'd be proud to own your car and couldn't care less about the opinions of Chumpy Checkbook and his type because the majority of them couldn't build anything like your car if their lives depended on it. In fact, when I see one of them being a jerk I make it a point to ask detailed questions about his car that more than likely he can't answer just to make him mad. Good for a laugh.

HRP, it is a big enough POS, that I think it is beneath you and you should sell it to a POS like me. You are much too good for an old car like that.:D:D You may be too good for it, but it is perfect for me:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'd put some hydro's, dayton spoke wheels, plush velour interior and dingle balls in that sedan.. jk

it is far from being a POS. Thankfully you were calm about things.. it isn't our fault that people are voluntary ignorant..

I used to teach auto painting tech to high school'ers. Every car that came in... no matter if it was a 50's sedan, or 80's maxima or a pick up truck... the stupid questions would come up (are you going to paint this?...... uh duh! We are an auto painting tech class.... uh no we are going to sit and stare at it with its faded peeling clear coat and admire for what it is...) or suggestions about putting 28+ inch wheels, candy paint, a crazy stereo systems, and or twin turbos and a spoiler... i always told them that if they would pay for it, I'd do it.. then i would sell the shit they added and do it my way with a smile.

    thanks,
    Douglas Johnson

    Sweet 32 ya got there.

  19. Thanks for all the great comments,,my "Do you think it's a POS" was purely for entertainment.

The lack of interior, the deteriorated rubber on the 80 year old running boards and old weathered paint was what the guy saw and with that he thought it to be a RR.

I am not ashamed of my sedan or the history behind it and could care less what the great masses of the unwashed think,I know you guys get it.

My primary focus was to educate the guy that The Hamb is not a haven for RR's! HRP

You handled the situation beautifully. By the way, I saw a mostly original '32 at a recent show that reminded me of yours....check out the original paint. It also had some interesting aftermarket add-ons.

Great looking car you have there. I am surprised how few long time in the hobby people know the difference between a Street Rod and a ( traditional ) Hot rod.

I don't get it I guess. I have never seen a POS car, even at the junkyard. LOL

I'd love to own about anything I see on these boards. :)

In my world RR is a car you fuck up, so it looks old/beaten. Traditionel is un-fuck an un-restored.
If I Call my car an old beater, it's okay. If someone else do it, it's an insolt.

Every man his own wish and style, and i dig your 32!

    RR is faul language!
What an ass! Just my 2cents

Well, the worlds filled with all kinds of folks. Not everyone is going to "get it". Just like my signature says. I've had people talk shit and it's easy to ignore them. One thing about the age we live in, is that imformation is very easy to get. IF you want it. I have told quite a few people to check out the internet and this site. They can draw thier own conclusions.

I've had people chuckle, stare, point and laugh. Doesn't bother me at all. The guys around me driving "donks" and "tuners" have no idea what's going on with hot rods. Some want to know, the others could care less. And that's a good thing.

For me, owning a hot rod or an old car is something special. I'd rather have someone "not get it" and move on, than have that same person build a POS and ruin it for the rest of us.

So, it's cool that you were able to explain what this site and it's cars are about. It's even cooler that he took the time to be educated.

  28. "you big meanie.."

    Now thats funny right there!!!!

  29. Yeah, well, and I had an uncle who said, "If you ain't got nothing nice to say about anybody, come sit by me...."

If you have to explain it, they will never understand.
