No Babbit refers to new rods using real bearings

This stuff you just go buy. In the end you'll get 50hp+

The headlamp bulbs were a little harder to find...... lucky I remembered seeing some at a swap meet in Holland several years ago.... sure'nuff she still had them and I took them all

Notice all the light's optic are eched on the bulb.... clever French stuff

It took time to find the drawing but all should be clear from this. Oil is fed in front of the ball bearing race and pumped back to the rods.

Hope this helps and isn't too boring to the Ford guys here

My motor was just recently rebuilt by a fellow in California so I know it is fresh. I am not looking to drive this sucker 60-70, I am just looking into making her a little more fun to drive. I already put in a 39 trans which helped alot, I just want more power when going up hills and the abilitly to get up to speed quciker. Also, a plain A engine is kinda boring looking.

Well it depends on what you want to spend there are finned side plates finned heads (Thomas) fancy sumps you name it but be warned one thing leads to another not only in looks but what needs to be done it all costs look at :- Sacramento Vintage Ford Banger section

for a start then get your wallet out!!!!

  8. I'm thinking you dont really need a cam for what you want. The boost in compression and the headers and carburetion will get you a decent jump. I'd stick with a single 97, two is overkill unless you're running a hot sort of cam.

I got a friend who has two 81's so I was going to run them on a Thomas dual intake with a Thomas head and headers. Nothing fancy, just want a little more power than a stocker. I have only put around 2k on the motor since it has been rebuilt. Is two 81's too much?

Check out Pirano's and Speciality Motor Cams websites; also in this months issue of The Restorer is a condensed list of dyno test on a Model A motor. It will give you actual HP gains for various modifications.

    Hi all

I have gone thru my books and magazines but can't find the deck height of a model A/B. The only thin I could find was 11-1/2" but I just measured 2 blocks and both where sligthly taller then that. I did measure with a regular maschinist's scale so I guess I could be off 1/32" or so. Does anyone know what the deck height should be on a stock block?

    Thanks,
    Magnus

Can anyone school me up on the correct finish for Winfield SR carbs I am prepareing mine for rebuilding and would like them to appear as new when finished. Some look as if they where copper plated and my butterfly linkage looks as if they where nickle plated?

  14. Magnus B,

11.500 is the stock deck height.

Of course, that assumes no cutting or grinding.

Just found a nice B block with no cracks, but the deck had about .010 dish to it.
A trip to the grinder fixed that.

  15. Jim Brieley has stated that there was a company close by Winfield's shop that Bronzed baby shoes and did the carburetors. I have been able to clean some up but it is very time consuming. I had thought the linkage to be a cad plating,

Thanks Bill I have also posted this on the main board and got the same answer my question now is how is bronzed plating done as bronze is not a parent metal,ie dont think you can electoplate with bronze I have pmed Jim and hope with his longstanding experience he may have some answers I was thinking they may have been copper coated but dont want to risk what is really only pot metal in any type of acidic mix and ruin a nice set of matched carbs.

  17. Russ, are these up or down draft carbs? Pictures? ...I know nothing about these, as well as a lot of other things...lol

sorry cant post pics but they are downdraft carbs probably some of the most widely use Winfields they suit the Rutherford overhead because while they appear small they allow the quick funneling of the air fule mix through the huge Rutherford ports a case of bigger is not always better.

    What size are they, BB's?
Have the same issue with the hog ports on my Alexander head and don't know where to start.
    Thanks!I

My Pop was running 3 Stromberg 2 barrels on his Ruterford head with great throttle response. Set up progressively with a 97 primary and two 81's as secondaries.

i'm working on a Model A chassis with an A motor with B head. Nothing fancy, just simple stuff. but, i'm using a 26 roadster body, so i don't have the benefit of gravity feed fuel.

so i'm wondering what you guys recommend for a fuel pump to get it from the tank (probably in the trunk) to the carb. i'll be using a single downdraft carb.

    thanks,

    mark

  25. Post some pictures. I have a 27 roadster body and plan to do the same.

  26. Well, on mine, I used this carter low pressure pump;
    http://macsautoparts.com/model-a-fo...sure-efp-9350-6/camid/MDA/cp/JS0R3CHL1137085/

Then I had to use a holley low pressure regulator to get down to 1.5 PSI

    Worked for me...

i was looking at that pump and wondered if it would do the job. i'll look into the low pressure regulator.

where did you put the filter?

  28. When it arrived, it was put together as an assembly. The filter was attached to the end of the pump with 1 1/2" of fuel hose, sweged on. So, when together, the entire assembly was "nipple in-nipple out".:D

Fit nicely within the confines of the frame rail. No time for photo now but will do later today.

  29. Okay, not the best but this gives you an idea....;)
One crappy thing is that it only came with one mounting clamp for the pump itself. Had to make a hokey one out plumbers tape for the filter part.
