Got this really cool set of patina'd KING BEE headlites off the Ford Barn(i think?) for $29.99,since a certain CLUB BROTHER WHO SHALL REMAIN NAMELESS TO PROTECT THE GUILTY, refuses to sell me the MINT CHROME SET HANGING ON THE GARAGE WALL! Ahh,I feel better now that I got that off my chest. Anyway, they need some work but aint that why we love this stuff?
The last few days have been like a whirlwind..I got my aprons hubs used KING BEES and upper/lower shock mounts.Also got my new 32 front cross member. I got a vintage Mallory Dual Point at the recomendation of Jeffrey James,who's awesome thread on the 265 he built,has been invaluable. Got a set of original cowl lights(should arrive tomorrow) and now i'm on a mission to find an original fog light. GOD IS GREAT!
Just a little update to fill everyone in on what's been going on. I've been going E-BAY crazy as of late and scored some great stuff for the Roadster and also the next project waiting in the wings, my 31 Tudor. Just recently found out that the wife lost her job and i've been without work going on a month so the buying is over for now but at least i got a leg up on some of what i need to get closer to completion. Here's a break down of what i added to the pile; Heading out this weekend to pick up a running Flathead and trans in Maryland that I purchased for the 31 Tudor.She's gonna be an unchopped full fendered(?) traditional hot rod. Still looking for a flathead trans for the roadster so i may use this one and look for one for the Tudor down the road. Got 3 vintage Mallory Dual Points with the cool crab caps Bought up like 3 more Holley 97's and some rebuild kits Got my hands on 2 trans adaptors for mating up the flathead trans to the SBC. You can always use em. Got a MINT pair of original 32 headlights because the patina'd KING BEE'S I purchased just looked too cool to mess with. They'll go on the shelf for another project down the road. Got an AWESOME original old fog light, never used and still in it's original packaging with brackets and all! Got a few cowl lights Got a real cool MOON finned timing cover from a fellow HAMB'er AWESOME AWESOME set of brand new Hildebrand finned valve covers that a guy bought the original casting to and reproduces them. THEY ARE REALLY GORGEOUS! Ordered my seat springs Well I think thats about it for now. Hopefully i'll get back to work on her soon and have some more progress pics.
I'm terrible with keeping up with this thread but i figured i'd drop a few lines letting you guys know the work is continuing on the roadster. We test fit the front end a couple of weeks ago and now i'm working on getting a tie rod that'll work with it. Just purchased a set of ramshorn exhaust manifolds from a fellow HAMB'r which i'm waiting to recieve. Gotta work on the aftermarket dash rail I bought a while back so I can get the windshield installed. Those damn aftermarket parts,grrr! Cleaned up the work area and sorted through all the parts I won't be using on this project,labled them and stocked them in bins on the shelf for future projects down the road. Here's a new pic with the dropped front end and clean work station;
Ok so me and the Legand, Pat Pryor did some work on the after market dash rail tonight. I'm hoping to save a few of you out there the trouble of pulling out your hair trying to fit it. We decided the only way to go was to drill out the spot welds and split the bitch down the middle. Then we lined the split pieces with the original holes on the car to see how she would come together. Well the inner piece seemed fine but the piece that lays across the top of the tank needs to be shrunk. I mean it's like friggen speed bumps running down the tank! I'll get some pictures up in the morning.
Made some nice progress last night. I never realised what a chore it is swap out the model A front cross member for a 32? Measuring like 100 different times to make sure everything came out perfect. At least it's done now and we can look forward to setting the engine in and reshaping the cowl,along with fabricating the mounts. We also took the opportunity to degrease the motor and paint her up,checking out a few of the dress up goodies that have be teasing me,sitting on the shelf for a while. One downer was finding out i've got 2 different heads on the motor, one the original 56 head with the offset bolt pattern and one 61 head. Go figure? Now i'm in search of a matching set to get everything back on track. My color choice,after probably 20 different combinations, is Mayan Gold with white interior and cream cowl. Well now i'm committed to the gold since I painted the motor up and i'm pretty excited by the outcome.
Made some great progress last night with the GOD OF METALSHAPPING,Pat Pryor. Pat fabricated the engine brackets and cut the firewall to fit the 265. Thanks to fellow Loper FLATPOWER for the use of one his toploaders for mockup. Next is fabricating the new firewall to look like the 265 was meant to live there. I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story. Put on some goodies for inspiration Also ordered some engine goodies like a cam/lifter kit and new pushrods from Waynes Speed Shop,another fellow Loper.
Threw on the 32 shell I had put aside for my Sedan project just for shits and giggles, and modified the after market (piece of crap) dash rail to fit the stanchions so I could get a look at her with a windshield. Not much but heres a look; windshields not bolted in place, just sorta hanging there for the picture;
Awesome car. Love the style. I just picked up a 29 Roadster so I will be watching your build for ideas. Great work.
Got the Roadster down at the World Famous Pat Pryors Hanger 6 getting ready to start kicking ass and getting her powered up. I've amassed a bunch of goodies since last updating this boring ass thread but her comes some more mindless bullshit. Chassis is ready to have the crossmember relocated for the transmission and we're working on getting the right pedals for inside the cab. Also getting ready to box the chassis to support the V8. Bought a sweet early 30's Terraplain gauge cluster to fit in the original 32 dash and a 51 Ford steering wheel that may find its way inside. Got a bunch of new engine goodies to freshen up the 265 while she's just sitting there, like a new timing chain,rods,retainers,cam and lifters. Hopefully the body will get sinched up and ready to get body and paint in about 2 months. Couple of pics;
Just ordered a bunch of windshield hardware and a few other things to button the small details up. Waiting to get the new rear brackets welded and installed, and have the 16" steelies body worked, painted and mounted.
Hey Mav, Thanks for the kind words. Our main objective in designing the rear treatment was to try and keep the car with her original rumble seat. Pat came up with an idea on how to lower the car about 4" without having to cut the frame. We are still sorting things out but it looks like we should be able to have a functional rumble seat. Our original plan called for the installation of T fuel tank in the rumble area, which we are still trying to work out, while leaving enough room for a set of legs(preferrably in high heels and fishnets). If that doesnt work out, i guess our only option is to use the original fuel tank. Pat basically reworked the rear cross member to fit the lower spring and welded her back in.
Stay tuned on saturday night, the LOPERS are gonna attack this baby and we should have a lot of progress to report. Also, we should have a bunch of pics of our members rides to share.
