    The saddest part was that there was NOTHING wrong with the Shenandoah! The commander didn't want to take his air ship (naval vessel, technically) and crew up in poor weather. But the HIGH BRASS ordered him to. The ship was ripped by sheer winds and crashed. There are wrenching first-hand accounts on the internet of the crash and aftermath.

    Thank God for Billy Mitchell (and your aero folk all know him). He called out the high command for foolishly costing the captain and crew their lives. HE WAS COURT MARSHALLED. There's even a famous movie, starring Gary Cooper (who would have known about the incident).

    I'm glad you guys brought up the subject (covered in GREAT detail earlier in this thread, if you search it), because those who remember past mistakes are less likely to repeat them, right?

    Been gone for a two week vacation and 40th anniversary celebration. Now that I'm back, I'll continue uploading and sharing.

    My Mom would have her hand on her hip whenever she was upset about something, just like she does here when she was a teenager. It carried over into her 90's.

    The day you posted these pictures, I was at Monarch Pass. This building burned down and there is a newer one now, according to some newspaper clippings they have on the wall. I'll tell you one thing, they have the largest chili dogs I've eaten in a long time.

  18. I've got a copy of that movie. ;)

  19. My hometown. Great picture of downtown Hermosa Beach, CA. looking west toward the pier. The pier ended at the water line back then, the rest fell into the ocean.

    As it looks today;
