Update on Post #27 - 07 25, 2012 Update on Post #29 - 07 28, 2012 Update on Post #39 - 08 02, 2012 Update on Post #48 - 08 09, 2012 Update on Post #51 - 09 09, 2012 I picked up this little jewel a few weeks back and figured I'd show it off. We bought it from a recently divorced woman that got the truck in the divorce settlement. It was about 95% fully restored about 8 years ago. Couple years later, the owner's relationship with to relationsh!t, then it sat. It's been sitting outside in the weather, neglected, for about 6 years. Somewhere in those 6 years, the husband went to beating the driver's side fender with a hammer. I'm excited about getting started on this project, especially after reading all these threads. This body style Ford has always been my favorite, and now I finally have one! My dad and I have been interested in old Ford trucks for a long time. When we came across this one, it seemed to good of a deal to p*** up. I didn't quite have enough cash to buy the truck, so my dad and I ended up splitting the price. Next thing I know, we have ourselves a '51 Ford pickup. In the beginning, we were wanted to do a body swap with a S-10 ch***is. But the Flat head V8 runs really good and the truck is pretty much all original and solid. So we've pretty much s-****ped the S-10 idea... For now, it needs new brake lines. (It has no brakes at the moment) So thats the 1st project. It's a pain to even roll the thing around at the moment... 2nd project is probably going to be a 12 Volt swap, then maybe some front end suspension and disk brakes. We're hoping to get it to a point where it's easy to drive, steer, and stop as soon as we can. As far as the finish, I'd like to do some wet sanding and maybe a matte clear finish. Dads pretty much on the same page. Maybe slap on some chrome smoothies and some new white walls. BUT, thats just me day dreaming at the moment. In the upcoming weeks I'll get her cleaned up and post more pics. So... Thats it for now. Lemme know what y'all think
Sweet Piece !!...good idea to s**** the S 10 idea....fixit up a little and enjoy it as a time capsule....my .02
I wouldn't wasted any time on that piece of junk...Tell me where you are and I run over there and s**** it for ya... Very cool truck...keep the flatty, dropped axle up front, drop the rear, get it safe, wash it and go....I would not touch that original paint...It is only original once.... Or sell it to me...SUBSCRIBED...
I think a tear of joy just ran down my cheek. Don't forget to go do the obligamandatory intro post here.
Thanks for the compliments. It's definately gonna be an awesome project! Like I said, I'll get it cleaned up and "stopping" in the upcoming weeks and I'll post more pics.
I know you s****ped the idea, but PLEAse dont frame swap that truck. Frame swaps are for newbs and ****ty vehicles. That thing is VERY nice. Look around at all the build threads here and see what some have started with and I think you will appreciate what you have a little more. I think you have the right game plan set up, keep the thread updated with your progress please, gives me somethin to look at when I am drinking my coffee in the morning or at work when its slow!
Nice project! If I was you..give it a good cleaning, get the brakes done, take the wheels and grill off, sand down the rust and put a fresh coat of white paint on them. Put them back on and drive the hell out of it..
Gotta agree with the previous posts. You have a great truck to start with, get it rolling & stoping & enjoy what you have. Keep us posted.
Welcome to HAMB...great find with your F1..keep posting your progress and I agree many others.Slam it an drive it in stock paint.
Great find, shovel it out, clean it up (or not) & have fun with it. Any thing that solid & complete is way ahead of most projects.
Making some progress on the brakes. Also got the gas tank washed out and re-installed. I took the grill out as well. I hope to have it refinished in the upcoming days. 6 year old gas + Muradic acid = new flavor wing sauce:
Man, i threw up some stuff that looked like that this last weeked....way too many beers... Nice progress there...
Well... The tires were BAD dry rotted. I had them pulled off so I could blast the wheels and 2 of them ripped. Looks like I have the new unexpected expense of new tires... Probably a good thing tho. At atny rate, some update photos:
