I have read a lot of threads on this great site about barn finds, but never thought it would happen for me. A few weeks ago I was at the local vintage car swap meet and met a long time friend who mentioned that there was a 34 Ford coupe about a mile from his place that might be for sale. I think time stood still for me at that moment, as this is the type of thing I have only dreamed about hearing and could not believe my ears. About a week later my friend took me to see Dennis, the owner of this car. Dennis bought the 34 in 1974, and had never got around to building it. He is selling his property, and looking to downsize, so (reluctantly I think, it is hard to part with something when you have had it that long....) he accepted my offer and a deal was struck.
A couple of weeks later two buddies - Terry and Al - and I brought a trailer and pulled the old coupe out of the barn. Before Dennis got the coupe, it looks like someone took a basically stock machine and started to build a hot rod - the only modification to the body is the firewall. The chassis shows some of the engineering that would have happened back in the day, but does not meet todays standards. Here are a couple of pics -

My pics must be too big, could not upload more than one. The body on this coupe is the best I have ever seen for an original unbuilt car.

Everything else except a motor came with the car - fenders, hood, grille, bumpers, even the stock bench seat. Has a dropped front axle with split bones and 40 brakes, looks to be a 46-48 rearend.

Man oh Man, I don't know how you got any sleep for those 2 weeks of waiting. It's great to see that these types of finds are still out there.
