i was at a cruse nite last week and a friend looked at a MG-b w/350 chevy and called it a hot rod. i said thats not a hotrod, to me a real hotrod is a 1934 or earlier car, stock, choped, dropped, etc. w/sooped eng.etc. 1935 + the fenders got fat and just dont fit my idea of a real hotrod. they are cool cars but not a hotrod. what do you think???

Everyone has their own definition of the term. If you look at the various online dictionaries they say, "a hot rod is an automobile rebuilt or modified for high speed and fast acceleration." I would tend to agree, age and make are secondary.

Hot Rod probably has different meanings for different age groups, but.... I'm 65 and most of my life a hot rod was anything that modified for more power than original manufacture. This was for most vehicles up until the muscle cars of the mid '60's.

It ain't worth the time to argue it. John Force calls his race cars hot rods, Many Nascar drivers refer to the car they drive as their Hot rod.

I'm sure not going to stand in the middle of a burger joint parking lot and tell some guy with an MG with a Big V8 stuffed in it that it isn't a hot rod. Small car, big engine that never came in it, goes fast = hot rod.

  8. Some say a 'real' hot rod, hasn't been built since 1949. Everything after that has been done in the spirit of hotrodding. Don Montgomery, wrote that actually.

I don't know, but I can tell you one thing. . . if it's "stock" it's not a Hot Rod.

    ^^^Me too^^^

I know a bunch of little kids that call my '07 Shelby 'the hotrod' - I don't bother to argue with them, instead I just give them rides and watch them grin from ear to ear...

thinking of another small British car with a big v-8 stuffed into it, guy who created it was from Texas, that MG is probably very close to the same thing, guy from Texas who created said car..................I wouldn't have wanted to tell him to his face his car wasn't a hot rod, both cars could probably make someone require an underwear change, if it goes so fast it makes your p***enger need a drawers change,it's probably a hot rod :D

It fits better and is lighter than a Sad Block Chevy.
