I'd sell my TESTICLES for a 1958 Buick Roadmaster (or Special), so perhaps I'm not the best one to put forth an opinion. Cars are cars, made of steel. They can be replaced. You just gotta figure out which one "floats your boat". No one can make that decision for you BUT you. AND, while you did some fine work on the COE, it is blatantly apparent (to ME, anyway) that your heart has always been set on a '59 Coronet before you even turned the first wrench on the COE. Which totally explains THIS...
Yes Indeed. Ya know, most of the close 59 coronets I seen for sale close to me,end up in European countries. Seems like you Europeans have a great taste in cars. I had a 59 Coronet before but it needed major work so I lost it to a butthole. The car I had was a California car and the whole floor was non existent,I cant imagine a car from the east coast. Thanks for the Kind words, and Yes I still want to integrate the 57-59 dodge fins to my COE'S rear fenders. Have you got any? Waiting for your weekly update on yer chebbie.
I've been doing some serious "soul searching" on the Chev, trying to figure out EXACTLY where I wanted to go with it. I finally have a plan for it, and I've set it in stone as far as I'm concerned, but it seems like every time I post something about the build the nay-sayers come out of the woodwork to drop a deuce on it. SO, I've decided I'm going to keep it a big fat secret until it's just about done, and then drop it on 'em like it's hot. I think it'll turn a lot of heads. Actually, I know it will. Fins, fins, fins... lemme see. I think the best I've got at the moment are the fins from a '62 Caddy, but those probably aren't what you're looking for. I can keep my eyes open though, and I'll even add your request to my search engine. I'll know the minute one comes up.
Yeah, good plan, just finish it and show it off, people either will like it or dont, But if yer happy, its all that matters. "I hear your a man who can get things" thanks for the look out
I'm not too sure about this Seth! Think I would favor the COE! I just like them. And yours must be one of a kind. Pick up the other car later...
Supposedly. Across the country. Big yellow flags there. Bondo bucket? Clapped out motor? Needs /everything/? Until you lay your eyes, hands and tools on it, you don't know. Despite any honest seller too, they may not know either. Cross country haul is close to $1K too. IMHO any unfinished COE unfinished project is not worth $7K unless you find the perfect buyer looking for a project exactly like yours. Get it running & driving, then it's easier to sell. As is, maybe $ 4K, sorry, quick sale price.
Can you get someone here to check out the '59 for you? When I get the '29 done, I'm selling the '35 and looking for a COE pick up. RB
Dude, give your head a shake, have some Jack and finish the COE! When you are driving it and having fun your next project will show up.
I know I love them cars,,,they are beautiful. 1 of a kind is right. I regret selling most of the stuff I sold to buy another project. I know I will get my 59 sooner or later. I have seen(in pictures) the way east coast cars rust,It dont look fun at all. And You are right,I will have to sell cheap to sell it fast. And thanks for being straight. I think Im going to wait on it. But good luck with the COE,once you have one, you'll want more. Totally right! I forgot to ask Jack for some advise.Thanks. Indeed. What was I thinking?
Hey gang. So quick question..... Will a Dodge truck slant 6 radiator cool an Sbc with a 700 ? I used a dodge truck radiator on my f1 before but this looks smaller.the one I used probably was a v8s
I guess its time to update this crappy thread. I got my E-brake installed and functional. I installed my stock brake pedal pad that Scott donated to my build,Thanks buddy !. I crudely installed an astro van electric wiper motor, the windshield wipers are working faster now. Its tough trying to work in 120 degree heat and 115 in the shade. So I might get more done this next months but I doubt it.
I once put a temporary window air unit in the back of a van I was working on, just cardboard to keep the hot air out. Put it in an open door. Worked great.
I can understand the lack of motivation when its that hot. I work outside in the sun, wind, dust, and sometimes on the hot asphalt dodging cars about 50% of the time and once off work have no motivation to go back out in the heat. (nice when i have office work during extreme weather) of course it only gets in the low 100's here and usually only upper 90's but still warm for me. hang in there, it will start cooling off soon enough, try working on some of the small parts or other things you could maybe do inside or ?
Hey, I like this thread....'cept you need to lose the michael jackson part. You should call your truck "the Desert Express badass COE" or somethin............................
That must have been really fun. I really need a shop,my F.I.L. has/had one but I doubt he let me use it. Its a big ass shop that is really close to me and it was full of cool tool at one point when his dad had it. Once his dad died,My fil,his brother and lots of tweaker friends made a mess of that shop and most of the tools were stolen or takenapart. It is really sad. I hear that the bank is taking over the property but they are trying to save it. I thought it didn't get over 90's in Utah. I tried changin the thread name to The desert express but I coudnt.
Hey G's Progress has been slow. I mostly stare at the coe,its too hot to fart around it. I mostly daydream or plan. Planning is fun and cheap. I been thinking about the c20 rear end. Originally the c20 had a 4 speed with a low 1st gear I think,So I assume the Rear end is not very highway friendly. I was thinking if a mid 70s Dodge truck rear end has better gear ration than the chevy. I hope someone chimes in so I can save a Dodge rear end before they scrap the trucks. Thanks.
Gear ratios are all over the place in trucks, you need to measure it (not hard to do if the rear is off the ground). What would your lug nut pattern be with a Dodge rear end - could you match the fronts?
I could Jack the rear of the Dodge. The dodge trucks have the 8 lug patterns,Same as chevies I was told.
You're back! Find out your ratio first, like BuiltFerComfort said, they can be all over the place. My '69 Dana is a 3:42, I had a mid '80's corporate that was a 3:73. It's been fairly hot up here too, but not like you guys there.
I had a 3.08 and I've heard of ones with 4.56 gears too. 3.73 & 4.11 are good with OD trans and 30 inch tall tires.
The older 8 lug were the same pattern just different size center hole. I don't remember for sure but I think Chev was the smallest
seth- the heat thing sure kicks the shit out of guy. us canadians take alot of grief over our cold winters but you can dress for cold, you can only get so naked in the heat.
Love the look.. Im on my 7th COE...I too am building a Coe pickup but mine is a 50 F5 and have it mocked up on a mid 80's chevy millitary 1 ton 4x4 single wheel pickup chassis, I'm not really a lifted truck kinda guy so I;m not feeling it...here is a pic of my daily driver....built it 3 years ago..80's chevy 1ton on air ride.
