Ethanol Defense

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Mr. Tomato Head, Jul 24, 2012.

  1. I checked to see if this subject had come up before on this forum, but could not find a reference. (Excuse me if it has.) Does anyone have any experience using a product called, "Ethanol Defense" by Bell Performance?
Would this be a more acceptable alternative to an Octane Booster to combat ethanol in gas? Could ethanol in fuel have affected my 1955 Ford Y-block 1-barrel carb that was just rebuilt 3 years ago with less than 2,000 miles on it? Confused in Cleveland

  2. Ethanol has an appetite for natural rubber. How old was the kit you put in your carb?

  3. I use Lucas Ethanol Treatment

  4. I keep a can of Lucas in the car, in case I end up having to use corn squeezins out of necessity. Since real gas is still widely available in OK, it has not been a big problem. Drive to KS or anywhere else in the Plains states, and availablity of real gas becomes an issue. So far, so good.

I have been using Lucas products for years in my business. Their power steering additive works wonders for small rack & pinion leaks, & noisey power steering pumps. I have had nothing but good results using their products.

I too drive a Y block in an area where ethanol is the only fuel available. If you get a modern rebuild kit for your carb, (a two barrel, count the holes going down, not the holes going up), and a modern fuel pump, it will all be OK. Any fuel hose should be replaced with hose labeled "Fuel Injection Hose". It expensive, but the other hose will only last a year.

  11. Same here.

    Like they say.... "It Works"!

    Spider -

Yea sure. I've used Lucas products for years and am very happy with outcome with all that I've used.
Their carb./F.I. cleaner is a very good product. Nice clean ports, valves and chambers with engines over 100,000 miles.
How do you explain that ?

Since you know all there is to know about the Lucas products...why don't you enlighten us with your...um...knowledge.

  13. The corn crop is all but failed this year and a lot of it is being ground into silage to feed animals. We need what little corn crop that we have to stay alive.

Another way to look at it is that there is not corn to make ethanol, we may see less to no ehtanol in out fuel in the comming year or two. Thank godness for the drought.

Oh one thing while I am thinking about it:

    Mr Tomato head,
It is not the miles that you should be concerned with it is the ethanol setting in your carb and fuel lines.

The Ethanol Defense product is not a strict octane booster in the sense of containing MMT or another number improver. But it is formulated to retard the ethanol solvency of rubber and polymers along with providing water control/detergency/surfactancy benefits.

Have to disagree with you on this one P 'n B...the drought will only serve as an excuse to raise prices again...and there's still plenty of corn being grown in the states of Nebraska and Iowa...I was just there and the cornfields are full of good looking corn and about 6 feet tall...

The price per bushel will go up for the farmers, and the price per gallon for the consumer will go up, but I seriously doubt that ethanol production will be curtailed at any time in the near future....
